This is aimed at the guys that do plates…..

I’m nearly set now , got myself registered (no probs)
Got myself the blank plates (2 step process , sticky plate and none sticky transparency clear fronts)

Printer due tomorrow (mine cant handle the length , tried vinyl , but to make sure everything has some sticky involved , I’d have to use the stick side of the vinyl as the front of the letters , doesn’t look that good , so bought the oki printer)

The only bit I’m stuck on now is the badges , as its the plate itself that’s sticky , and not the clear covering , i don’t really want to use stickers etc, so my plan is to print these along with the reg (printer should handle them very well)

therefore my question , does anybody know where i can get JPG’s or EPS’s etc of these badges ?????? (?)

Hi Becky , yep , buying theprinter , but not the LG kit , the software is out of my budget…..i’m a corel man anyway , and fine it does them nicely , just need the graphics to import.

Thanks Steele , same again really here , quit expensive when i only need the run of the mill badges……

I can see my handy work coming onto play here , i’ll do them by hand (corel that is)

    Cheers , all

Sorry to disapoint you but despite the claims in all the advertising you
can not print the end badges with this machine for plates, It may be Ok on the white but no good on the yellow.. too wishy washy.
As anyone on this board who prints will tell you, that you need to put down a white base when printing onto clear.
We use this machine all the time and have played around with all sorts of ideas but with no joy.
We do our badge plates with the citizen thermal printer and printed stickers.
We do print carbon letters, 3d effects and shadows to great effect but always use the printer in black & white mode.
If any of the suppliers here say it will print GB badges then I’d like to see it.

One more thing I would like to add. From your post you say “two part system,” so you are obviously going to use the yellow and white plastic panels and stick the clear on the front.
This looks very cheap and to be honest is crap.
We get loads of customers with new cars that come in to change this type of plate that has been fitted by the main dealers.
What we do is a three part set, A bit more expensive but ten times better plate.
    1. Print on the clear in reverse
    2. Laminate onto clear perspex which has the glue on
    3. Laminate the reflective sheet onto that,(also has glue on).
So the clear Oki transparancie is sandwiched between.

Hi , i was looking for the 3 part system , but could only find 2 part on the net…

many thanks for the advice , your probably right about using color on transparencies , it never works well for overhead projectors etc , and this stuff look just the same……

I’m not there yet then , i’ll play for a bit just to convince myself there naff , but i’ll hunt down some 3 part systems…

    cheers , steve

    got to agree with marty.

we`ve had the oki for the ghosting.

badges etc are bought or done on the edge or cadet.

we use the 3 part methoid with the oki, we are/will be saving approx 20p on the tennents system.

alittle longer to produce, but better looking plates.

again, another machine that is sold as an all singing all dancing machine. but falls sort on a few things. once you see though the hype, and consantrate on the things it does do well, good plates can be produced.

with the use of vinyl, the oki, the citizen, the cadet and the edge- there an`t much you can`t do….

the oki plates and the standard number plate acrilics do differ in apperence.

the oki plates are reflective with glue on the face, the clear film is placed on top.

I do plates to and use the citizen thermal printer, print onto reflective then laminate to acrylic which is sticky, never had any probs.

I’d like to get hold of some of these reflectives with the fancy ghosting, badges, the ones I get from my supplier, sister co of Automarque, are quite bland and run of the mill, have seen some really nice ghosted images, badges but cant locate any. Do you guy’s, Becky & Dewi print your badges and ghosting using your edges & PC60 thingys.

I have cut some in vynil and they look ok once laminated to the plate nut I am limited to what I can reproduce.

Carbon fibre domed digits, can any of you guy’s supply these?

Marty, you state that you print your carbon/3d & shadows, what do you print them with?

Gypsy, Dewi is right, using the printed stickers from automarque is ok, they are cheap and look ok, if you give them a call they will send you a poster with the different badges they do.

    Cheers

i only print the custom side badges on the edge or cadet.

i use the citizen printer for the reflectives

if a ghost background is needed, depending upon the imgaes, i swap the black ribbon on the citizen for a silver and print the ghost before the cars reg.

    mort.

give europlate a ring for the components. sorry havent got the number.

we also have an old fashioned press to create the black & silver pressed plates.

Well , got my printer today , took me age’s to get it set up right ,but its working a treat now…..

Laser isn’t great i suppose , but have sold some today already and the boy racers are very happy , already getting asked if i can make them anti flash , Mmmmm , maybe !!

Still need to get these badges though , i can print some of it with the plate lettering , but obviously as i’m printing onto clear stuff , white backed badges wont come out on a yellow background , so for now i’m cutting a small piece of white vinyl to fill the space (looks ok really) , as i said , there not great close up , but even at arms Length they do look the part…..

Got a mail back from Paul at Automarque , says hes up to his eyes at the min , so i’ll wait on his reply…..
