  • Not so much wrapping a vehicle – how would you apply to this

Got to apply vinyl racing stripes to this:

It’s the air inlet hump and the stripe runs from the rear of the vehicle to the front and is about 30mm wider either side of the hump but covers it & runs in front of it…. – thinking I’ll need an appropriately sized cut out but not 100% certain if I’ll be able to get it perfect.

Can’t find a wide angled shot of the car on my home computer to put this part into perspective either! Will upload tomorrow once I’m at work.

So the solid hump on the top – is that the air inlet? How does it let air in – is it going to be cut out eventually?

edit – completely changed my mind on how i would do this.

Basically I would make a template out of a couple of sheets of application paper or masking tape then transfer this to my vinyl and hand cut. If possible I would cut it in half and scan it, vetorise it, and cut it on my plotter to make a proper accurate job.

    Hi Paul

Bit vague in what you need to achieve but i think I sort of know what you want!

If I’m right then personally id wrap the intake and then cut the stripes by hand.

the hump is behind the roll bar & drivers seat – the picture of the hump in original post is going to be cut out soon. Just trying to work out how I’ll get the strip to run as one piece round the sides/over the top of the hump but then carry on forwards…

I would run tape where the yellow meets the green. I would then wrap the yellow over the hump. I would then cut the yellow on the vehicle on the tape. I’d then peel the tape off and peel it from under the vinyl. Don’t cut through the tape.

I’d then place the red strip over the top.

Jason – great idea! What kind of tape would you use for this?
