NO SMOKING LAW IN ENGLAND
Posted by Peter Normington on April 23, 2007 at 10:13 pmOK it had to come, and I received my government issue pack today.
It included a variety of no smoking decals, so anyone who had ideas of making a killing printing them may be disappointed.Thing is, they were printed on oracal HI tac rubber?
whats that then? I haven’t seen it in any suppliers brochures? and wondered why that particular media was chosen?Peter

I made my fortune last year in Scotland when the fools that govern us here brought this legislation out in Scotland.
Scotland is now one of the healthiest nations on Earth (not)
Wait until next year when they start to bring out draconion drink laws. I kid you not – the b@stards won’t be satisfied until they’ve taken away all our freedoms of choice

Peter you will still get a few places asking you to do stuff for them, when it was introduced in Scotland I wasn’t working but a couple of signmakers I know said they got a few jobs to do for pubs and clubs, most companies had them supplied for company vehicles though from what I have been told.

Sorry Martin/Phill
I was more interested in the media used than the no smoking signs themselves.
The government must have spent fortunes doing an evaluation on the suitability of the material, and taken into account all the various places the signs will be stuck (no funny comments please)
😉
anyway, oracle rubber?
comments welcome.

Peter, you are probably right, the Government probably did spend a fortune on an evaluation survey but as no Government departments seem to talk to each other then what was ordered was probably completely different to what had been specified in the evaluation.

yep guys and you can bet theres sombody been givin a job to decide where the signs go ….and a nice new office …comp …the lot …oh and of course they will need there PAs to go along with that …oh and of course the PAs assistant !!!!! .Of course this is not the same guy/girl that has the job of deciding on what material is used …oh ..no thats a differnt department entierly 😀 😀 and the process continues untill youve spent a lot of your taxes on goverment job creations 😀 😀 😀

Brian, you have forgot about all the inspectors who go round catching people out and giving them on the spot fines for breaking the legislation, these people are actually generating a lot of income for the government.

Hi Peter, I also got a pack yesterday, and wondered at the Oracal ‘Rubber’. Maybe someone will be able to tell us what it is/why it was used? (-)
-
yep your rite of course Martin ….you me and everyone else is paying for it 😀

to give it its proper reference its Oracal 1680-10, and its designed with a high performance adhesive to stick to most surfaces including polyprop and other tricky materials. I think its only available in packs of 100 sheets and its twice the price of normal stuff.
edit – just found this link http://www.orafol.de/eng/pdf/1680.pdf

It needs to be very sticky to stick to a range of non stick surfaces such as "Teflon Tony" :lol1:

I used the stuff several years ago. Got it from europoint, and if i remember correctly it’s really thick and sticky vinyl, which makes it pretty easy for joe public to lay himself, which i think is the idea. Hard to cut though being thicker vinyl.
