  • No smoking and LPG signs any rules and regulations, advice please?

Hi Ive been asked to supply a few No Smoking and LPG signs for a restaurant. They have brown and cream signs at the moment and want some pretty signs to match with the above info. My question is should they use the traditional red and black standard signs or can they tweek their own colours and style and still be ok with the info? much appreciated jean

Warning sign should be in there specified colours to meet Health and Safety (Safety Signs and Signals Regulations) 1996 – if there recoloured, they’d not meet the standard.

Health & Safety signs must follow the correct colour codes as well as Icons.
No longer do the likes of a green and white sign with "Fire Exit" comply with Health & Safety regulations.
Yes, you can have the words "Fire Exit" but it must be accompanied by the running man, an arrow for direction, the flames icon behind him and rectangle for the door…
This is because safety signs are being regulated on a global scale and must conform. This allows anyone… the Spanish, Mexican or Chinese person, no matter who or from where, the same chance to escape in the event of a hotel fire as the people from the country the hotel is situated.
obviously the above is just an example, but this is very important and no matter how fancy they want their signs to fit in with their decor, they must conform where necessary.

You don’t need the whole flames behind. This is an added extra. The main part is a running man but you also cannot mix British Standard with European standards. Also sizes are important. Certain sizes required for different viewing distances.
