    Hi All

I’ll confess that I don’t know the first thing about inkjet printers, but the time has come to catch up and get a printer.

We’ve been offered what seems to be a good deal on a Mutoh Valuejet 1204 and wondered if anyone has anything good or bad to say about this printer.

We aren’t looking to do high volume work on it, just small stuff really, as long as the print quality is good enough on the best printer settings that it has, and we’re not too bothered if it takes a bit longer to run, just as long as there’s not all the banding/lines that we sometimes see on other print that we’ve seen when we’re out and about.

hope to hear any of your comments or opinions you may about this piece of kit

    many thanks

    Neil

I took delivery of a 1304 Valuejet in January and this is my first printer.
Like you I had no experience with inkjet printers.
I’m well impressed with the print quality and the ease of use.
If the 1204 is like the 1304 it uses ‘Wave’ technology when printing so you don’t get banding.
I have an idea of where you got the offer from, if I’m right go have a demo.
Overall so far I’m more than happy.

    Hi Neil,

    Thanks for your comments.

I was thinking about the ink cartridges for the ValueJet 1204, which I think are 220ml each – if they would need changing or topping up during an ink run, as that doesn’t seem like they hold much ink, and not sure what happens if they start to run out if the machine has been left running overnight.

Also, is it fairly easy to get replacement cartridges for these machines, as our vinyl supplier that seems to sell just about everything for digital media, doesn’t stock the spare ink for any machines.

Been reading up on the wave technology and it says that the printers that work like this, only have one print head, and this is what helps to eliminate the banding.

Do you find it easy to keep print heads clean, and does the machine need to be run everyday to keep the heads clean and operational?

I use the 440ml cartridges. The machine lets you know when they’re going to run out.
I’ve had one totally run empty while printing and the printer stops and waits for you to replace with a new cartridge and carries on with no signs of the print run stopping.

I get mine from Spandex next day.

Yes, one printhead so if you have to replace it it works out cheaper than replacing 4 heads over time.

I leave my printer on 24/7 so it self cleans every 6 hours and the weekly maintenance is easily carried out.

the one print head printers are very good… sharp and perfectly aligned

so, the mutoh is also the same as the JV33 and the Roland versaart printers… let alone the Epson printer… i cant rememeber the model numbers.. but u get what i mean

I think they all use Epson heads?

So one print head means there’s less chance of banding and mis-aliegnment, as there’s only one printer head

Thanks for the explanations and opinions

can I ask what rip software you are using with the Valuejet 1304.

Ive just bought a 2nd user one and it came with onyx but I’m struggling a bit with it.

I’d like an inkjet for posters n such as I don’t like the quality on my versacamm.

Hi Bob, if it’s me your asking? I use Ergosoft Posterprint RIP.

Tony, if you google Spandex I guess you’ll get their site or try Gerber.

My Valuejet prints great posters John. The printhead uses Wave technology so there’s no banding.

john the Vcamm is perfectly capable of printing good quality poster prints may be a bit slower than you like.

by the sound of the other posts it needs a good sort out and perhaps another look at the poster paper.

It’s not the speed, that I can handle it’s more the quality and the fine detail that it lacks
