Could anyone advise me of what the best printer to use in a home environment would be please?
I am looking at an Epson 1290, which I read on the board can be used for printing vinyl graphics, but wonder if there is anything better and more suited to a vinyl decal beginner please
    regards

Hi, need to know a bit more, what width are you intending to print, by home do you mean in your living room? Or a shed/garage. Do you need to print and cut, What sort of work load is anticipated?
I probably could’nt recomend a suitable printer, because I havent tried them all, but these are relavent questions for others who might.

    Hi Peter,
    Yes good points.
By home environment I mean a home office in a spare bedroom.
I create photographic colages as a hobby but recently I have become interested in vinyl graphics. I would like to learn how to create small vinyl graphics that can be put onto motor vehicle’s, hopefully incorporating my collages.
Another poster submitted an article about using an epson 1290 to make vinyl graphics for motorcycle helmets and it crossed my mind that this might be an avenue I could take as the printer/cutters I have seen advertised are in the £1000 bracket and this is far far away from my expectations at this time.
    I hope that is enough
    regards

As far as i am aware he epson 1290 wont print onto vinyl, the least you will need th spend is probably £4000 on a printer that will. You can get a lazer printer from some one like the magictouch and it will print onto a4 self adhesive media but its not really outdoor durable

It will print onto inkjet vinyl (only for indoor use) It can also be used as a sublimation printer with sublimation inks and can be converted to a full/mild solvent bulk fedd ink printer too , its a workorse and a standard in the desktop color printing industry , prints beautifully up to super a3 (329 x 485 or so) I just picked one up for about 400 quid , parts eaisily avialble for it , reliable .
I have a flatjet based on it and its a marvellous machine , see my post

1290 is a fabulous machine, we run two, but for vinyl no way.
Do you think we’d all be spending £12K upwards if we could do it on a £300 inkjet?
