  • New Years resolutions, anyone planning any?

Posted by Robert Lambie on December 27, 2011 at 8:09 pm

Well I began my New Years resolutions today!

Was back at work and have already began work on completing our long over due reception area update after last winters burst pipes and celing collapsed! 😕 :lol1: Ive several other bits and pieces around the work to do also, so they are next in line… still managed out to dig and concrete in a free standing post and panel road side sign in Glasgow before close of business.

In general i have allot planned for 2012 and looking forward to it all… Going to be a busy year for me with many challenges… "Bring it on!" :lol1:

First things first, i am back to the gym 4 evenings of the week straight after work. I was doing this great for about 4-5 months earlier this year but stopped going due to an injury, then slipped away from it. so no better time to get back to it, than the New Year!

Ive lots happening with UKSB, updates on all that will be posted over the next week to ten days on the Homepage.

Sign wise, We are busy and happy with our constant work flow, but I am looking to lower our out goings. So i will reduce our stock where we can. only buy from a select few suppliers and find ways to further reduce our waste.

anyway… Anyone got any new years resolutions… planning on anything new?

    .

Well I am not going to make any new years resolutions at all, logically I have far more chance of achieving some of the things I would like to do if I don’t include it in any new year resolutions.

I can’t think of a single resolution I have made over the years that I have actually managed to complete or keep up, maybe I have always made new years resolutions about things that if aren’t impossible to carry out are far to difficult for me personally.

Although I will not be making any resolutions there are a number of things I would like to achieve but I am going to try and set myself small goals that are more achievable and see how things go.

Best of luck with your resolutions though Robert.

This year I want to have a go at building a CNC router. Not only will it be challenging and an interesting project to take on, the end result will be a very useful tool along with the knowledge gained in the process.

Secondly, I want to get my old Capri back on the road, but I think that may have been last years resolution as well 😕

Here goes , last year it was very good business wise, and I am looking forward to another good year, made a lot of progress work wise, and upgraded a lot of equipment, learned a lot, and in the 2012 hope to move to a larger unit , and continue the learning process and use some new tools to make the work process easier. and in case if I don’t get a chance all the very best to you all of you on Uk Sign Boards for 2012.

To improve my life overall, its not great, its has a big challenge ahead and it feels as tho years are flying by without me noticing.

That’s old age Dave. The older you get the faster the years pass you by. 😕
Find a good woman mate…….that might make you feel younger! 😉

I don’t have any "set in stone" ones this year.
But I will be 50 in July, right about the time of my oldest son’s wedding, and I want to look good for that.
Business wise things are about as dead as they can get, so I’d like to further develop subbing out design work to other sign shops.

Next year I want to promote and sell more of the work that we can do after having invested a lot over the past 18 months. I also want to do more traditional stuff too, this is a case of making more time and as I’m catching you up Jill, I’ll be 49 in January and time seems to speed by faster and faster I think that may be difficult!!!
Some more travelling is on the list wether home or abroad.
Oh and win a few more Squash games but I think that one won’t happen!!!

Well you have already fulfilled one of your resolutions before 2012 has even started Jill congratulations.

Sure everyone on the forum would agree with me that you already look terrific so no work to be done there. :lol1: :lol1:

I bought an old building last year – great location, town centre etc, but the entire structure needs to be bulldozed and rebuilt, and the over 9000 recent earthquakes have knocked it about a bit. I want it to be all done by the end of the year.
I am working in it, and every time there is a quake the windows bow in and out like a soap bubble, and another crack appears
I have rented an alternative shop for the rebuild, and I have a builder and architect on the case. Now I just need to find the money(!)
Somewhere in all that there is a resolution!

The only one I have made , is to beat my man more, he’s getting out of hand.

Today, i asked him the same question – Any new years Resolutions?

Thinking he might say something like,
Go to the gym more ( 1 would beat his record)
Spend more time with the family.
    Take me out more.

But no, he said he intends to help me more about the house………. tears nearly came to my eyes, oh how lovely I thought….

I have made a start he said !!!! I changed the bed sheets.

    Thanks I replied.

Then sitting watching telly, i remembered I had just changed all the beds, and because of Christmas, the sheets were still in the laundry room waiting for me to put them in the washer, and we have no more clean ones!

So I questioned him on what sheets did he use? Those in the draw by the bed, he replied.

I gave him an evil eye, and said the draw by the bed is where I keep my knickers………… "well they fitted it" he grinned.

    So, that’s it, I`m on a strike….

    sounds good to me dude!!

I gave up making resolutions years ago, If I want to do something for the good of myself, or others, I simply do it, does it have to be a ‘new year’ thing?

all the things i’ve chosen to do over the years – I’ve given up smoking, stopped taking sugar with tea, stopped biting nails, started playing rugby again, joined a gym, etc. have been nowhere near new year!

No Karl, it’s your tackle & how you use it 😉

Your both right but having the right bait (your profit) comes before your tackle & how you use it. Also important is to make sure you keep your tackle clean at all times prior to use.

I have every intention of getting organised.

I noticed when things got busier at the end of 2011, sales were up almost double what they were last year although I had only just started up back then.

I did take my eye off the ball and found myself up to my eyeballs in work, that suddenly became urgent. Also lost some work, with not managing my time right and telling everyone it will be done ‘this week’, some smaller, profitable jobs got lost and forgotten about… that really hacked me off.

As some would have seen from another post I made, I have realised too that I need to make changes in the way in which my business runs.

    Business plans for 2012

    • Install a counter in the shop front to stop joe public walking around
    • Re-Vamp website
    • Stop spending hours on designs, not charging for it, and not getting the job
    • Ease cash flow – Get paid before printing/Production
    • Get some new, better clients
    • Get organised, don’t put off the smaller jobs and concentrate on the bigger jobs, chase up quotations.

I’ve got a feeling that things are going to change regarding my tenancy and landlord so plan to be prepared.
