    Hey guys

I am just about to purchase a complete setup for printing onto mugs etc, need to get this ordered and mugs etc made by the weekend to get the xmas traffic.

I’ve decided to get the oven as per the other thread, seems simple enough, 4 mugs at 1 time and fairly cheap compared to a mug press that just does 1 at a time.

Not sure on heat press, printer, paper supplier, mug / mouse mat / coaster / dog bowl supplier and if i’ve missed anything else i need please tell me.

I was thinking of going for a Ricoh GX7000 but i don’t really want to pay more than £1000 for the complete setup and that printer will take a very large chunk of it, i found the printer for £500 at printer land but i’m guessing it doesn’t come with the right inks? or should i go for an epson A4 printer? at the mo i’m not seeing a benefit in going for the A3 Ricoh but i don’t want to purchase an A4 and two minutes later want an A3.

Also, i would like the heat press to be able to print onto football shirts, t-shirts etc, i don’t have much room so a swing press is out of the question and i don’t get why you need so many bottom plates and presses i.e. sports press, should i not just go for the larger press and are they not all the same?

    Thanks

Hi Daniel, if your budget will allow you, go for the A3 printer, you will be able to print on larger items like 37 x 25cm (A3) canvas, Pillow cases, larger area of t-shirts and also Bar Runners plus many other items. If you purchase an A4 you will regret it two minutes later….

I have an Adkins heat press with 38cmx50cm (15"x20") table but I wish I could change the table to smaller ones sometimes, you can’t pull smaller clothing over the table, and some items you need to pull over the table. With a swing press you have more freedom to work on the garment you are pressing.

Something like this would be ideal for me:

If you buy a small press I can guarantee that within a year you will wish you bought an A3 press. I have the Adkins Multi (?) press ( as shown in Aan post) and have the large medium and the small table. I have to change tables at least once a day, usually between the large and the small. Plus the A3 press will be what you want when you get into printing vinyl onto shirts.
As for printer. I have an Epson 1400 A3 with bulk ink system. Started with an A4 and immediatly regretted buying the small size. I print a lot of photos onto black t-shirts using poly flock. Can be done with A4 but the small printer just wasnt up to it and within a year I bought the A3. Problem with these printers is ink clogging. You will need to do a head clean very regularly. The Ricoh wasnt around 2 years ago or I would have bought that. Low maintenance , faster and better print. Dont buy the printer and ink separately. You will need backup and knowledge from the supplier including the right colour profile for your ink/printer.
My little setup costs around 2K , double your budget but not a lot of money when you are starting up a business and IMHO worth it.

    Good luck
    Earl

I’d go for a good quality mugs press. You should be able to put a mug through a press every 2/3 mins, with a oven you have a long baking time & unless you have 8 wraps you have the down time while the wraps cool down to re use. p.s. I have both & always end up using the mug press .
