NEW SCAM – BEWARE.
Just to let you know of another scan thats doing the rounds.
You get an e-mail.
Saying something like
“Phone me on my mobile, I`ve got something to tell you” ?
Then theres the mobile number.
So I`ve been told, the number is a very high rate number, when you dial, it answers the on the first ring, and then plays a recorded sound of a phone ringing. Hoping that you`ll hang on till someone answers. Of course no one will, but you`ll get a wopping phone bill.

This one can also come in via your mobile phone. It will say 1 missed call.
The following is part of an e-mail I received from a mate, who works for BT.
Please be aware of this warning we have received regarding a mobile phone scam. There is a new kind of mobile phone scam. A missed call will show on your mobile phone. The number is 0709 020 3840!
The last four numbers may vary, but the first four numbers will remain the same! If you call this number back, you will be charged £50.00 per minute. People have complained about their phone bills, once they have realised the cost of the call, but apparently this is completely legal.
So beware, do not call back numbers beginning with 0709.

I’ve never answered a missed call on my mobile yet except from a known number.
I figure that if its really urgent they would leave a message
Can’t be bothered to leave a message? Then I can’t be bothered finding out who called (especially now with these scams going around)

In my opinion, the service providers should be held to account for these scams.
We need some legislation in this country to prevent any “Tom D*ck or Harry” from buying a premium rate number to generate an income for whatever purpose. BT and any other service providers should not be allowed to sell these systems without vetting the companies who buy them.
Only yesterday I complained to BT (as I get great pleasure in complaining to these corporations on a regular basis 😉 ) about unwanted faxes and emails I was receiving. I asked for a facility to reject incoming calls with numbers withheld…I was told they can provide this if I wanted it …but… there would be a quarterly charge for the service!!!!
B*astards (I thought) – sell premium rate numbers and also sell a facilty to reject calls from the B*astards that buy them. (Yup – that’s another lucrative business 🙄 ).
It’s about time BT was re- nationalised to go back to providing a service in the best interests of the population of GB. and all of their (so called) competitors should be put out of business

Right on brother! I also enjoy complaining heartily to large organisations. I know the person on the other end of the phone has no authority, but shoot the messenger, that’s what I say.
I’ll tell you what gets me a bit mental. 800000000 calls a day from people trying to flog me water coolers, advertising space etc. As soon as you start to tell them to get stuffed, they hang up. The only way they could have got my number ( me being a new business) is from the Yellow pages flogging it to them before my ad has even been published. Gits.
