  • New proof printer not printing bevels from corel design….

Posted by Ian Muir on August 24, 2009 at 3:52 pm

    Hi

Just preparing some proofs for a customer for print jobs on my new (or soon to be) Mimaki print & cut.

Trying to print proofs to my also new OKi 830 A3 laser, designing in Corel and using the bevel effects quite a lot.

Thing is the printer window shows the bevels there but the bloody Oki (bless it) doesn’t print it, just prints a flat colour…

Any idea why or how to go about investigating the problem folks…..

I don’t know the reason but you could try exporting as a tiff and then printing that.

Exporting as a tiff has solved lots of printing problems in the past for me.

    Cheers

as garry says or a high quality jpeg.
if your using the bevels of the X3 4 then they are bitmaps on top of the drawing and drivers do get confused.
if like my oki driver then should be set to cmyk and the export bit maps should be cmyk, and the profile should be cmyk.

i notice that that printer is only cmy no black cart is that correct.

Thanks guys, I did in end convert my drawings to bitmap (have x4 so one click) but it’s a bit of a pain to then have vectors and bitmaps to save all over the place.

Could be that it’s a bit confused with bitmaps (bevels) on top of vectors also I printed the background trucks out to show finished designs in place but the files were only about 10 meg each.

CMYK Chris, black is there.. maybe you noticed the offer of free toners which strangely are only for CMY and not black.

i have used the bevels in x3 but find them poor quality and difficult to get the colours you really want. found PS far better for this.

have to buy the black cart well they have to catch you somewhere.

i have found that presenting artwork on A3 looks a lot better and more professional.
