The Power Trace looks interesting, wonder if it’s better than Live Trace in Illustrator CS2

Not seen the Illustrator live trace but I can promis you that Power Trace is a significant improvement on the old trace, is integrated into the main programme, is easy to use and can rival bespoke sign programme vectorisation. There are also many other improvement relevant to sign and printing business not least the contour tool now works with curves not hundreds of straight lines and overprints are viewable as they will print when they go to press. If you have any more specific questions post here.

First problem, I keep getting is a just in time Debug message?

When it is running cant see much difference from 12.
Wheres the “power trace” Or do they just call it trace.?

It says Power Trace in the help but it’s just Trace. It doesn’t seem as good as the separate Corel Trace 12. I will have more of a play but seems backward step at moment. You can’t save your own presets I think 🙁

Peter, right click your bitmap, select Trace.
David I’m surprised you don’t think it is as good, results here have been excellent, you cannot save your own presets but there are several there as well as the sliders, most scans and bitmaps of logos I’ve used here are fine with the ‘clipart’ option.

Keeping an eye on the Newsgroup for X3 is a good idea to get feedback from users of the full product.

Hi Alan, it might be good for that one task of scanning a bitmap but only 6 presets? Where have all the options gone? Centerline, Outline, Advanced Outline, Sketch, Woodcut etc. and the fine tuning?
I use a program called TraceArt which is good but I have upgraded to Illustrator CS2 and the Live Trace is excellent. I have decided to invest some time in learning Illustrator becuase of it. I just need Corel to drive my plotter!
I will keep trying it because it will be easier to use just one program, I’ll focus on the ‘clipart’ option.
    Cheers

    Alan,

Im having trouble keeping x3 running! I am just going to try a full re-install, if that gives problems, I wont bother, dont know what the problem is, but I did a search on coral support and couldnt find anything relevant.

As said I keep getting just-in-time debugging box pop up.

Peter can you give me the message and I’ll try to find out more.

Alan, I re-installed and it was still the same.
A window comes up, just-in-time debugger, and asks if this is the default bebugging program. I say yes and it goes ahead and debugs, it stops at a line in the script that says “Object expected” and an arrow pointing to some script .

if I say no when the window pops up, then coral opens, but after a few mouse clicks, it pops up again.

I have tried the repair option in the installer, and a fresh reinstall.

I have uninstalled again so dont have the exact message, I will try again later if I get time.

Peter, when you get the debugging request keep clicking ‘NO’ until it goes away – Close the ‘Hints’ docker on the right and it should be fine in future. Apparently only happens on some systems, mine has been fine.

Thanks Alan that seems to have done the trick, dosn’t inspire confidence though.

I still haven’t found this powertrace yet. When I use the ap launcher, I just get the corel trace eleven prog..
Right clicking the image dosn’t have a trace option.
If I type trace in help ther is no mention of the it, just contour trace..Is it me or am I just missing the obvious?

    Peter

Have they improved the contor function in the new version

I hate the way corel 11 produces contours using thousnds of straight lines and nodes.

If they sorted only that out, I would buy it

At the moment I have to do my contours in another programe and import them back into corel which takes too much time

Peter. Trace is now integrated in the main app. Put your bitmap in Draw – right click – left click Trace bitmap – choose the preset (you can change this after intitial trace) colour tracing objects can be mapped to selected colours and colours merged.

Paul, contour vastly improved, now curves. Don’t forget that objects can be grouped and then contoured (not sure if available in V11) print and cut guys should like this along with the boundary tool.

    Thanks Alan

    That sounds promising then

I was thinking of getting their technical illustration suite because of the type of images I create but I may have a look at x3 before I make up my mind

    cheers

Hi, just downloaded the demo of X3, looking at making a lockable PDF file

if you lock a PDF file can it be edited by anyone with X3? (if they know the password)

    Nick.

just seen that you need the second password to open in X3 and the first to open in Adobe, so no you cant open it if you only have the first password 😀

ah.. one of the features that was missing is lockables.

however in acrobat u do have options of locking for lo-res printing etc. should match in corel now.

I think that’s very good 😀 use your company name for the first password and everyone knows who made it 😀 😉
