just wondering how many people have come up against the new polish used on cars etc.
application tape will not stick to it and the vinyl only just. you can blow it off with a water hose.

a normal polish surface has never been a problem but this stuff is non stick to say the least.
had 3 vehicles lately and had to spend a lot of time cleaning with avery surface cleaner.

still can’t find the name of the product.

    so what is it ?

Yup – I’ve come across it a couple of times. Application tape will not stay on and vinyl comes off again far too easily. I recently had to re- do the signs on a driving school car because of this. Now that I am aware of the problem – I will recognise it again. I suspect the polish has a high silicon content which repels the vinyl and tape. A good clean with a petroleum based solvent such as Autoglym tar remover (or even petrol – heaven forbid 🙄 :lol1: ) takes the polish off and prevents failures.

Our dealers are using something similar here too. I think it is basically a silicon spray. I’ve had a couple of Toyota Vans from different dealers with the same issues.

I’m told you should wash the car with a hot water blaster and grease remover for best results.

I suspect Phil is right – they usually have a very high silicone content.

I recently tried out that new ‘turtle wax ice’ malarky…not exactly a polish as there’s no buffing – but does put a nice shine & non-stick coating on the car…positively slippery infact.

I always advise my customers that I will only apply to a vehicle that hasn’t been waxed for at least two weeks as I’ve had major issues with initial grab on several non-stick cars…the last one I just aborted / abandoned, stripped (OK wiped the vinyl off) the panel I’d done and told him to return in a few weeks.

Even petrol, meths & a soapy was didn’t make enough of a difference to warrant continuing at that time.

I used it with limited success on the Toyota’s Jason.

Finished up washing with APM3, high pressure ‘cold’ clean, drowned them in metho, avery cleaner, and window cleaner.

Got it to stick eventually, but told the client to come back if anything started to lift.

A mate of mine had his Saab treated with it. Its a 3M product and it cost him £500 extra. It is silicone based and is supposed to be hard to remove. We have done a couple of vehicles lately that have been treated and we used cellulose thinner to remove it. No problem. However, you can only use cellulose on a works finish,(ie new vehicle). Don’t try it on a vehicle that could have been refinished. Hope this helps
