New HP Solvent printer
Posted by Alan Wharton on February 6, 2007 at 6:50 pmIv had HP on the phone today asking me to go see the New HP Solvent Printer 1.6m in sheffield, does any1 know much about this machine ie: is it a print n cut or just a printer, i told the guy i was looking at versacamm and cadets etc but he said they are dinasaurs now 😕 and you need to get into the real world of solvent printers. I can see a few ruffled feathers on this 1 lol.

Hi Alan
i don’t think it has cut facilities on board, although i prefer to be able to cut all in one, i have noticed many are going for separate cutters anyway these days.anyway… one thing i have noticed about the new HP is that it appears to have its own on board air purifier/extracting system and is 10 inches wider than my grenadier. it also has front hitting fans to assist in drying times… (see picture below)
ide really be interested to hear any feedback on new printers coming onto the market like this one. its obvious that things are now being done to tackle issues like fumes etc, which has been an ongoing argument for small workplaces for the past few years

The rep told me 1 has just been installed at a print shop in middlesbrough so i might go have a look there, 1 did ask him about the inks and he was on about some New solvent ink thats a few steps up from cadet/versacamm inks but these printers he said a pure solvent printers they cannot be converted to any other ink system.

Apparently the new inks have a chemical footprint, and if any third part inks are used, they will be flushed out of the system, scary aint it.

I know when we bought our HP9000s the air cleaner added $3800 to the overall cost and the heaters were another $1000 USD.

Hi to everybody
we are using a HP9000 for 3 months…the facts:
1. the real production print speed is 16 sq m/h or 160sq ft/h – at this speed the quality is the same as Roland sol jet quality at 8sq m/h
2. high quality print at 8 sq m/h – same as Roland at 4 sq m/h
3. there is a special option : double printing the same image for using in light boxes – 8 sq m/h
4. billboard quality on blue-back paper at 25 sq m/h5. ink cost/sq m is relatively high: 12-15 ml/sq m + cleaning = 16-18ml./sq m
1l ink cost 230 euro so 1 sq m print cost 3.6 euro + media cost…there are rumors about Triangle inks at half price.very speed and very trustful printer…after using many years just chinese printers there is real pleasure to work with
Now we are using a lot of "special or curious" printers and maybe someone is interested about…just ask and it will be my pleasure to answer /if I can, of course/
the "special" printers are:
Matan Sprinter – a giant thermal transfer ribbon printer – 1meter width
BusJet printer – a little A3 flatbed printer
4 pcs of diferent brand chinese printers …there is very "exotic" to work with this printers and with chinese technicians -
Don’t mention the busjet to Rodney Gold he has one for a door stop apparently

First of all sorry for my poor English…I try to do my best
Yes, the BusJet is not a success story…as with every chinese made printer you must be very lucky to succeed to work without problems. I remember that Rodney Gold, on this signboard a few years ago, was very enthusiastic by the BusJet …I suppose that he have the same experience like me: first we love the cheap "marvelous" printer then we hate it for his erratic working style
