Well i managed to fit and enter the new print head ID successfully ( thanks for the info Mr Rowland )

Now i have run into a problem… no ink output from the head on test print… i slowly injected the head with cleaning fluid before installation, fitted new dampers and primed them using a syringe, the capping station is all clean and the cables are fine and fully inserted square.

I have performed a few ink fill ups but still no output, the machine was turned off at the back and unplugged and any residual current discharged by pressing the front on switch, i also took great care in not touching the electronics and keeping the head dry so i think i can safely rule out electrical damage.

The pumps are good and have performed a "dis way wash", I’m starting to worry as i have nearly run out of options as to the cause.. any other ideas what to try ?

Just a thought.. is it wise to pull the ink through with a syringe via the pipe to the capping station in a vain attempt to get it going or is this asking for trouble ?

The ribbon cables are easy to damage when plugging them in, and can blow fuses and even the moving/main board, have you tried a test print?

I do that on my Roland after I’ve changed dampers just be careful as to how much suction you apply to it, too much could damage head, steady & gentle.

why was you changing your head in the first place?

The cables you see and sounds like you have been careful cannot be put the wrong way round, if so that part of the head array will short out.

The ink is drawn by syringe from the pump/caps area when installing a new head, once damper is partially full it will print.

TBH I have re-framed in the past of helping people change parts of a mimaki on here due to errors caused by themselves, it does happen and it is not an easy task, also we have a number of people like Tom from Tech8 or Kentech who are a phone call away who do this as a business, their charges are pretty reasonable and i dont want to turn this place into a instruction booklet for changing printer heads and then we have loads of questions about it.

So, my advise to anyone here who want to learn how to fix your printer yourself is to spend some money on an engineer who *may* show you the process of changing a head/tuning the head and some tips on how to keep the printer running, its well worth it as this is how i did it.

The head was changed because i had the spare with the machine, the exsisting yellow head could not be recovered even with multiple 99 min cleans.

The cables went back in the same way they came out, when i was at my last employer i watched and picked up a few tips from the engineer who changed the heads a few times on a Mimaki tx2 textile printer and the procedure is more or less the same for a JV3, the only thing i could not understand was the entering of the head ID.

I quite understand that you dont want to turn this place into a instruction booklet so i will ask no more.

I wouldn’t be put off asking Andy thats what the boards are about, if someone doesn’t want to answer then thats up to them no ones making them.
