Hi folks looking a ballpark figure for this For Sale sign

Customer has had them screen printed before but is not prepared for the huge outlay on this method again so is looking vinyl prepared ones. Approx 10/week

    32"x24" ( double sided ) 5mm fluted plastic ( approx 3mtrs of vinyl )

Im thinking it costs approx £6 materials + approx 1 hour to cut and fit .

How much was he paying for the screen printed ones?
I’d go in at about £30 per board, i’ve done a few of these suppiled with the wooden stake for £40 for one offs.
If he wants 10 a week i’d go slightly lower £20-25 per board.

to be honest mate, your not going to beat the screen printers price.
that coupled with the silly prices they will be paying as an estate agent i wouldn’t waste my time.
i don’t say that disrespectfully, just that its common knowledge estate agents grumble at paying buttons for their signs.
yet they ask for "modern, eye catching, different" but want to only pay a few quid for each sign they "repeatedly" pick up thousands of pounds in commission for advertising on.

I will discuss the pricing with him tomorrow, when he comes in, but the reason he wants them made now is that he ( estate agents ) doesn’t want the quantities that they had to order from the screen printers, Large outlay but your right if he is not happy paying approx £20 each then i will not be busting my *** all the time for £10 per board!
I enjoyed making the sample anyway to test my speed and preparing the vectors so it will do as a sample here.

glens prices are about right. so good for you to stick to your guns tim.
when he comes in, give him your price for 1-10 signs, then 10-20 etc. keeping the 1-10 price exactly what you would want from this job. sure as sugar he will be popping in now and again asking for only a few at a time.
if he doesnt, he will be back at the screen printers.

Hi all, I can’t see where you are getting these prices from – I think you’ll be lucky to scrape £6 – £8 per board. At £20 -£30 he’ll just laugh and take it back to the screen printers. 😕

part of the problem is the size. to make something retail less take something away, old sales do dar.

i would offer 2ft sq at a lower price. better use of materials etc.

    Hi Harry,
Not willing to give out my prices on this open thread but try this link and you’ll be supprised. BTW this is not me or my site.

Where i’m based a lot of the agents are using full colour on their boards and its not screen printed. Some are even having theirs die cut to a chosen shape. Correx board printing has been taken over by the digital age and screen printing just can’t compete in price and quality.

from what i know with remax i have done some work for them.

That sign is not to brand standard as well they have asctually changed their balloon to full colour as well. This thing really needs to be screen printed. If the guy doesnt want the quantity then do it out of cut vinyl you may have to print the balloon and die cut. 15-20 pounds is what i would charge.

I know he will never go with it they are cheap skates. Then next best offer is to make high quality boards that can be reused. Do it out of steel sheet and a nice frame to hammer into the ground.

chris is right… have prices in your head for a smaller sign closer to his budget..if he accepts you price fine, if not you have a backup to still get the business at a price worth your time and effort, if not good riddance to them

no point being a busy fool as they say.. 😉 :

Hi Chris, Don’t think its the price of the correx as its cheaper than chips ATM.

yes john it is cheep, but my point is the use of other materials, in the same area of vinyl you could get 4 sides, whether that be print or cut.
also presuming 48 or 54 in materials.
also to keep value in the first size asked for.

probably cheaper to borrow the money and have loads done, rather than keep having small runs.

Hi Chris, Definitely cheaper for larger runs. I would try to come to an arrangement with client and then print an overrun on qty to keep in stock. The biggest problem with small runs on screen printing is the cost of setting up the screens.

thats my point john, not worth talking to these folk unless its going to be worth while. let the screen printer have them. we charge what glen charges for joe bloggs coming in off the street for the word "for sale" in red and then a black phone number. no design work… just cut and slap it onto correx 2×2 both sides. all cut from srap/offcuts we keep in bin bags and run by an apprentice in 10-15 minutes from scratch.
we do make/sell a fair amount of these…

Yeh Rob – I can see what you mean. £30.00 for a one off would be fine but an estate agent just wouldn’t pay it. Not that I’ve got a problem with Estate Agents – I think they do a terrific job 😉

    Cheers John
