When you buy a banner, do you have any specific questions to make sure you get the correct grade or thickness or strength of banner material?

I find it a hit or a miss. Some are great, some are very plastic feeling to them and cheap. I had some not long ago and they tore in the wind very quickly. I am finding out the hard way it is not all about the price! But as I do not know the technical requirements, maybe I am buying the wrong stuff, or maybe I am being just sold the cheapest they have to beat my current price, I don’t know. any advice would be great! 😏

    We use Papergraphics

E/FB6 Fire rated banner 440GSM for our bulk standard banner for one off events. Not had a failure yet. We produce lots of these for our local, lets say travelling/permanent community. We also only use the single sided banner strengthening tape also.

I think its the 520 or 540gsm we use. sorry I forget the exact ref.

I have tried loads of suppliers, some crap but many offer similar and do a good job. But I prefer to stick with one grade in stock that ticks all the boxes. when it comes down to banner strength is paramount for me, hence going for the heavier grade.

obviously, the print output finish is also very important so again a bit of trial and testing comes into play because some machines, material, profiles etc give a different quality of finish. by that I mean I am using latex and some banner materials look as if the ink has been sucked into it and gives a very flat dull finish while other a vibrant colour pop!

i know the argument can use a budget one for budget banners etc but means you are now stock two types. I prefer to just accept if a budget ones does come in, I make slightly less money. but that comes down to how you price your jobs also which is another topic entirely.
