nope, its a3 only so no good for long runs of labels. etc. and a lot slower than the gerber.
it will eat into the die sub market more, it cant do textiles though.
and being uv can do braille, if you are into that market.
It prints white which is good for glass items, non sure if it does metalics thoughPeter

Yeah that’s pretty grim news really, will be good to see it in action at SignUK though but would have thought the UV Roland that prints metallics etc will be better than this then?

most would prefer to buy a wide format at that price. -

I like the look of this as well, looking forward to seeing this at sign UK. Spoke to Signmaster earlier and they said that someone had rang and tried to order one for £3K.

Had a demo on the Roland UV yesterday. Amazing machine-I think 700 wide roll- all good- price 45’ish grand! i will keep saving…!

i skimmed the thread, couldn’t take much more of the cheese on toast video with "catch phrase" sounds and music playing in the background. so sorry if i am getting this wrong… so its £23?
is this machine not doing similar to that of the Bullet that came on the market some years ago from B&P? i forget the original name for it, but that was the rebadged name… that did all this sort of wonderful things and i believe Rodney Gold sang its praises back then i think.
I can see where it has MANY uses…
but from a sign makers point of view, its VERY limited in size and someone mentioned its also slow?
Its not going to be much use for "long term" vehicle graphics as the prints cannot be laminated due to the UV inks textured embossed surface.
again… size. yes we all got by back in the day with tilling prints, but lets face it, with roll to roll solvent machines on the go at a fraction of the cost, i know what ide be buying.
you are also limited to applying the prints on flat panels of the vehicle because UV ink will not stretch and only flake.
if printing onto rigid media, check exactly what it keys onto "without" keying fluids. even if using keying fluids prior, check it still keys well using whatever method of trimming/finishing you want to do. Some UV "prints" on the likes of alluminium, di-bond and the like will shatter if guilotining them without leaving a margin of space/bleed.do not get me wrong, i am not trying to rubbish the machine. it clearly has many uses and looks a great bit of kit. i am saying this purely from a sign makers point of view. not a sign shop on the high street doing short runs of a bit of everything, or someone that does allot of promotional goods and the like… just purely signs background. that said, think peter did say you will have to sell a hell of allot of key ings, pens etc to get your £23k back.

£23K, thats the sort of area i thought the machine would be in….
but then again how about saving up another 20-30K and getting the mimaki uv flatbed/rollfed instead.

We had a meeting with a printer last night who has just had his monster UV flatbed installed, and I was surprised at the limitations.
For our line of work I think we’ll be sticking with solvent for some time to come.

I was really keen to see this launched as we are quite involved in the promotional market where this is clearly aimed. Identify, the laser people have a similar printer with a larger bed currently using solvents (with white) but have promised a UV upgrade for this. Again the price is too high at around 16K and given that you are up against screen and pad printers, its difficult to see where you can make any money back at these prices.
Traditionally promotional print is very cheap on pens, usb sticks and the like and give the slow speed/small bed I cant see these going anywhere except schools etc. at this price.
If they can get one down nearer the 5-8K mark we may be interested but first I have got to find somewhere to put it!
PS Chris – Identify sell theirs alongside the lasers as a print and cut solution but i agree a pricey alternative to a pc60

Seems to me that at 23 grand this a massively overpriced piece of nonsense cashing in on a well established brand name within the industry.
Maybe I´ve missed something, but I can´t see where it fits into either the sign or promotional products business.You could buy a couple of much more versatile A3 size machines costing less than 3000 quid each, which print full colour directly onto all flat substrates, plus most promotional products including golf balls, drinking glasses, pens, lighters, key-fobs etc., etc.
These printers are all made in China (not necessarily a bad thing). I´ve seen them working and they appear to do a good job.Chris A
