If you do a search under ‘electro luminescent’ there are a ton of suppliers including custom logos & simple wires & tapes. I played around with some for a bit of R ‘n’ D, but it’s only any good in subdued lighting conditions. I’ve seen photos of one company that had it embedded as part of a van livery – looked amazing!

Have a look here:

I played around with several metres of blue & red EL wire & some 6mm tape. 12v supply, to an invertor that outputs a couple of hundred volts (totally safe). eg. http://www.theglowcompany.co.uk/acatalo … DUCTS.html

the presenter on the TV show talked about cells in the paper “dying” off…only a certain lifespan …pitty

I’ve just spent half an hour talking to one of my suppliers and got onto EL for touch control panels etc. Mentioned the ‘half-life’ problem and he let me know that a superior system is being developed that doesn’t rely on the 100v plus invertors (and they cause a lot of electrical noise). Aparently, it has no lifespan problems, and it can change colour, but he wouldn’t tell me more. 👿 And about some nice new chrome inks that if you coat something – it’s nearly as good as a mirror…..samples on way 🙂
They’re not in the signage business but he thinks a re-application of their knowhow could produce some stunning end results….watch this space!
