  • Needing help pricing 7.5 Ton Lorry please?

    Hi all.

I’m about to quote for our first lorry job, the guy wants front and 2 sides and I’m pretty sure its going to be a front cab wrap and then covered on the rigid sides.

Its a petty much standard Iveco lorry but I have no idea where to start with pricing and they will undoubtedly want a ball park to start with.

I am either going to use Grafityp or Sericol vinyl (first time with those too!) unless there’s an alternative? Didn’t want to use the bubble free products as I heard some nightmares about them on curves.

    Anyone help me out?

there are so many variables, how can someone advise you what to charge?

We don’t know your overheads, your profit margin, your mark up on materials etc. etc.

I’ve been in business 22 years and I still struggle with pricing, you’ve just got to set your price and go with it.

It’s something you learn with experience, you win some, you lose some, but as I said it’s still a struggle.

You should have taken my remark about your website as a compliment because it’s quite impressive.

I guess if companies pay a £1000 or £1500 for a Transit van wrap then you got to be asking £2000 plus if it’s a cab wrap and the sides of the 7.5 tonner are covered.

Web site looks great and i have to agree with Owen, your website is a marketing tool and as such it needs to promote your company, nobody going to have a web site saying "we are not very good at something but give us a try" however most of us will paint our company’s as may be a bit more experienced than we are, it is what makes the world go round.

My company website claims we fit vehcile graphics but in reality we only print them and a company 500M down the road fit them.

With regards to cost, we had a 7.5 tonner in the other day and even though we only did the back and not the cab i still printed about 10 meters for this one, if it was the cab being wrapped i would use MD7 but as it was just the sides we used MD5 both using matching overlams. To work out a ball park figure just measure the size and approximate the amount of vinyl required and for fitting allow 2 guys a whole day.

Once you know how much vinyl and what type you are using and how long it should take to fit just quote using your sell price per square meter and hourly rate, should not be to far amiss.

    Regards

    Russell.

    Right – start again…

I have had the week from hell with our new unit move and probably got a bit stressed at the keyboard!

Unfortunately (or fortunately) websites and graphics are what we do, been doing graphics for years but small scale and now because we have been asked (!) are doing more full colour stuff than cut, up to date its been flat panels and so forth.

Anyhow – long story cut short – i have my costs down pat, but couldnt work out if the economies of scale started to play with bigger vehicles when doing the wrapping. Fairly easy with cut but as time seems to be the biggy issue I thought I’d get a hint from you guys.

Just bringing this topic back again briefly…

The Lorry turns out to be actually a fairly std box lorry with rigid sides, with this in mind (and having absorbed robs comments in another post about the correct vinyl), what vinyl is going to be reliable for the sides?

I’ve been asked to cover the whole side with a print.

I was thinking of using MD5 with the appropriate laminate as it seems reasonably good vinyl, the last lorry we did was cut graphics for the sides where we used Mactac 9800 normally.

Just a one liner answer would do, oh and there’s plenty of those nice rivets!
