Is it just a one off job John?

I spoke to a company earlier in the year that specialise in this sort of thing, I can try and find contact details if needed

Just a one-off unfortunately Neil. Had thought about just cutting a stencil and inking it but with the texture of the ball and small size of the text thought this might not be very good round the edges. Wondered if subli would be a better way?

for sublimation the product needs to have a polyester coating then heat pressed for around a minute at 175c +

You may need to try your stencil idea as a last resort 😕

Maybe use a font that lends itself to a little bit of bleed John? have done stuff on leather before and if you apply loads of pressure with your finger along the edge of the mask just before you apply the ink and get the mask off as quick as possible it can work out okay. Even use a bit of heat.
If you can cut an outline on the text, facilitates getting the vinyl away from the ink quickly without having to take it all off.

I’ve done rugby balls (and loads of other random stuff) before as part of a ‘mock’ branding for a TV company filming a youth program intro sequence.

Cut vinyl mask – heat bonded to alleviate the issues with the dimpled texture & an aggressive spray paint.

No comments back about it coming off during the shoot…

OK thanks guys. I’ll cut a stencil from cast and toast it on a bit, then spray over.

    Thanks for your help.

I have done this on some boxing gloves, same as dave said but I painted screen printing ink with a brush.

    John,

    Is there any colours involved?

If the colour does not play a roll, you can have it Lazer Engraved. It looks very good on leather, and it will even last if the ball is actually kicked around.
