need to buy a Laminator help needed
Posted by Ian Pople on January 5, 2012 at 11:50 amHello all,
Is anyone using one of the Chinese electric laminators looking at getting a non expensive one to start with. The prices are very low.
Or any suggestions on an inexpensive laminator electric or manual.
Thanks all
Ian

HI Ian, I have a 1600 wide one that I bought from a well known auction site. It’s an import but it’s worked really well for 2 years now. So on a price per month cost it’s cost me about £7 a month so far, every month it last’s then it’s even cheaper lol.
But as I say about all these things from china, you need to get the electrics checked as mine had a bit of dodgy wiring in it when I first got it, I fixed it myself with my trusty soldering iron and it’s been fine ever since.
I even dropped it when moving it on to the power lead and it pushed the power socket into the machine…. still worked afterwards for weeks, although I have repaired and replaced that now.
It’s worth it if your on a tight budget
Hope this helps

yep I have done that no problems, it’s 1600 wide and have been able to do up to 10mm thick so far.
I messed some stuff up at first but when you get used to how it works and how to get the best out of it it’s great. I’m happy to give advice to help you avoid some of the teething problems I had with it if you decide to get one.
Mostly its silly stuff like the best way to get the media on to the substrate with ease and also marking the adjustment knobs so that you get an even pressure. i also marked the mid point on the rollers to get even pressure.
Drop me a line if you want to know any more, I can even send you a video of how I use it to best effect if you want?
I do large safety signs all the time and i also use it for putting app tape on really big jobs (and small ones sometimes) I also do photo backed acyrlic with it.
I hope this helps

One more question,
What are the advantages of having a hot laminator? if any for just sign work.

My laminator has heated rollers, I don’t use the heat normally as the laminate goes a bit funny on long runs.
But it’s handy for encapsulation on large paper prints, pig to set up but a handy extra, I wouldn’t bother paying the extra for it if buying a new one though.Steve

I have a brand new 1600 wide Chinese laminator that may be going for sale with our solvent printer mutoh value jet dx5 (Printhead Brand new) but still deciding to be honest will e looking at £5000 for both but also have lots of media as I always chuck media in as a sweetner when I upgrade. I’ve not long owned it but really looking at upgrading to DTG printer. This is still in use and has plenty of ink worth £££ you can contact me on 07595300550
