Anyone know where you can get hold of decent chiselled/3D fonts. I’ve already got the Ingram Chiselled Fonts 7+ CD, that contains Race Disaster/Eternal/Brannt etc. Trouble is, most of them are awful looking and it seems every other signmaker within 50 miles has the same CD, so Mr.Jones the Baker looks identical to Mr.Jones the Plumber!! There must be someone that offers a really nice chiselled Clarendon or Rockwell – mmmmm, heaven!

I use chiselled fonts from Dan Antonelli, they are available from http://www.signdna.com drop a line to Dave Simpson, he’s a great person to deal with.

The Fontry also do some, and if you have Signlab E6 there is a module in the program for making your own.

I posted a little help for Timmy yesterday and posted a pic of a van done with one of Dan’s fonts.

Hope this helps abit, I have others here too, but Dan’s are the best, the others are more race car numbers etc.

I seem to remember a “step -by- step” on the Letterheads site on how to bevel/chisel lettering,I assume this means you can do it to whatever typeface you want ,I don’t know?Personally if I want a chiselled effect I just mix up a tint and a shade of the letter colour and paint em on.

…yeah, I did it that way before I realised the paints and thinners were rotting my insides, and then I saw the VINYL LIGHT! So. I took my knowledge from 15/20 years of brushwork and stepped into the computer age. Do you know what, it ain’t that bad in here. Much much cleaner and more rewarding in every way – just a pity the door’s been opened to so many ‘Overnight Signmakers’ with little command of the trade!

Dave, don’t get me wrong, a few people on this site probably do as I seem to have a habit of bringing topics to an abrupt end,but I have nothing against vinyl,I have always used pencil, pen or brush since my early days as a Technical Illustrator and I don’t think my strengths lie in the design side so I would just be another vinyl guy.To be perfectly honest I would be quite happy if I ended up just painting house signs as long I was still painting.
