  • Need some urgent help with a weird banding type issue…

Well its not really banding- more a distortion of every few bands.

Some background- I’m running a JV33 printer with SS21 oem inks and Onyx as my rip.

I’ve been having some problems now and then printing greys and blacks -for this job the color is 95% K, 0 on everything else. In 16 pass mode I seem to be getting distortion every 1/2 inch. Its as if some of the dots aren’t landing where they should. It seems to fade in and out every 1/2 inch and is VERY noticable. It doesn’t happen on any other colors either.

I’ve played with the heat, cleaned the encoder strip with windex, but not sure what else to do.

On top of it – I have an 800sq ft jobs to print for monday 😳

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Its happening on all files in the dark gray color range with solid areas like this.

    I tried doing 95K, 60y, 60m, 60y, 60k, same result.

I suppose I’ve noticed it for a while – but never really noticed it this much. There are obvious stripes in the print every 1/2 inch.

    I’ve also changed modes from bi-dir, uni-dir, 8-pass, 16-pass, hi-speed, low-speed; etc etc.

Also – It seems to be more pronounced on the left side of the machine (opposite the capping station).

After that last post I took a look at the spool on the back and noticed it was a little uneven (one end had been beaten up a bit), so I thought perhaps its creating uneven feed back on the machine. So I pulled up about 2-3 feet of slack and sure enough it eased the problem by about 90% – mind you it was still there.

I just switched the roll and the problem subsided to the same level as when I pulled up slack on the previous roll.

Any ideas on what is causing this?

I’ve had it happen on other media as well – and always on the dark black/grey colour spectrum.
