  • Need some help pricing 10 magnetic signs please

    Hi there

i need to quote for a regular customer. He’s asked for 10 magnetic signs (that’s five pairs) all the same.

they are 40cm x 40cm squares with a 27cm full colour printed and laminated circle applied and then one line of text in plain black vinyl underneath.

I was thinking roughly £40 plus VAT for each magnetic that’s £80 a set, total price of £400 plus VAT

i know this is based on my overheads and costs and yours will be different, but does this sound in the correct region?

any advice would be a great help, thanks

    Liam

Liam, that is bang on what I would charge, as a normal 1-off pair-£2.50 per linear inch. I count the off-cuts in the cost, as I am not guaranteed that I will be able to use them for other jobs, and are therefore ‘waste’.
I would give a discount for 5 pairs if all the same.

    Thanks Lorraine

i also charge in the same way and include the ‘waste’ in the price. Thanks for your advice on this, at least i know my price isn’t way out now.

    thanks again

Liam, if that’s the price you have worked it out to then it must be right for you. I wouldn’t offer a price as my pricing would probably be way out. Not doing a lot of work now and also as I can’t remember when I last did a set of magnetics.

Only thing I would say though is that if this is a regular customer and they want 5 sets all the same then I would have been looking at giving them a bit of discount on the order. 5 sets is hardly bulk buying but it is enough that I would have given them something off IF the sets are all the same.

Any small offcuts should be used up by printing your own advert.
I print them saying that ‘you are not using the largest advertising space you have’ or words to that effect and then if I am at B&Q or Wickes or similar and I see a unsigned van, on the magnetic goes! Simples!

    I Like that……….. I’m going to try that one…

I think your prices are good, With my waste I add some small compressed gas decals in to the side of the waste vinyl on the print run and make magnetic warning signs from them about 100×100. I just bang them out on my web shop for £10 a pair… I find I can get about 10 out of the waste on each meter. That’s £50 extra for stuff you where going to throw away…. Basically it means that when I do 1 meter mags whatever I sell the magnetics for is pure profit!
