  • Need some advice on buying magnetic material

Posted by Liam Pattison on September 28, 2009 at 1:12 pm

    Hi,
i’ve worked with it many times, but never been responsible for buying it in, so i haven’t taken any notice of thickness etc.

I need to make some magnetics for the side of a pick up and i was wondering which thickness to get.

Seems like i can get it for 5.99 per meter at 0.9mm thick plus vat plus postage, so your probably looking at over £80.

I’ve seen it on ebay for £52 for a 10 meter roll, no delivery charge but it’s 0.6mm thick. Is this good enough for vehicles?

What’s the minimum thickness i should get?

Or does anybody know anywhere to get it a little cheaper than the £80?

    Many thanks

    Liam

Stick with any of the Mag suppliers in the Toolbar – not worth trying to save a couple of quid then getting grief down the line for inferior quality material.

Stay clear of FleaBay stuff in my view.

As Tim says Liam, stick with official suppliers… Grafityp are one.

You need 0.9 for vehicles, 0.6 are for fridge magnets and Ebayer cheapskates… last 2 of 3 magnettic jobs were for customers who had bought cheap on Ebay and then found one of there mags had blown off while driving along…

As you imply, you have to buy 10 meters but some companies sell (more expensive) over the counter by the meter, Sidney Beaumont in Leeds used to be one I recall.

Lucky for me recently, moved on a lot of magnetics for some combine harvester advertising but unfortunately that sort of work doesn’t come along every day…

Thanks very much to both of you, looks like grafityp would be about the best price for me. Will stick to the 0.9mm option.

    Thanks again
