Need help designing the new work area
Posted by Adam Hilson on July 11, 2009 at 11:33 amAfternoon all.
I have just finished building the new workshop. I’m trying to set it all out efficiently. I have printers, laminator, 1600mm paper trimmer, and work bench. If anyone can come up with some ideas or some pictures that would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Adam

just a quick note. how are you going to load the solvent printer with material and do you use 440 carts.
also not keen on the printer next to the only door, chris

Hi Chris
I can roll the laminator and trimmer to the side. But it is surprisingly roomy. Ive not got the printer yet just working out how to organize things before i go to far.
Do you have any other ideasCheers Adam

is that a partition to the office? can it come down?
have u got any space upwards? -
that gilotine? is that big old heavy duty thing?
(ah paper cutter) so what does that look like
i have to say, where is your second exit? for fire reasons
-
Solvent printer parallel with the office, cutting table pushed into the corner where the other printer is and move this printer over near the other. then fit the other bits round.

Have you actually put the stuff in yet or does it just look roomy because it is an empty room? It actually looks like it is going to be a bit cramped, personally I would have prefered more room to move about and wouldn’t like the idea of having to move stuff which it sounds like you are going to have to but maybe you were limited with the space you had to build in.
Wouldn’t be happy about the solvent printer against the only door either as others have said, have you checked to see if you can do this from a health and safety point of view as Dave has already mentioned another fire exit.
Other thing that springs to mind is the cutting table. What sort of size is it as I would have thought it was a little small, I started with a large table and when I was forced to work on a small table found it a lot more awkward and time consuming. Couldn’t wait to get a bigger table again.Sorry to sound a bit negative but it would be a shame to get moved in and start working and then find you couldn’t manage properly.

also an anoying thing about mimaki printers is that they come with firewire cables which have limited lengths

Thats some good ideas guys.
The 2nd exit is behind the canon but i work by myself so its not to bad
Any one got any more ideasSorry Dave partition is fixed
Cheers guys

Adam, watch out for health and safety if it is behind the cannon printer as they will say it shouldn’t be obstructed. Could make a big difference as far as insurance goes.
What sort of solvent printer are you looking at buying as you may also need to think about extraction system depending on what you settle for and that will obviously take up space of some sort. -
Hi
watching & reading with interest, signing papers on a unit tomorrow. Size is slightly bigger @ 15mtrs x 7.5mtrs plus some mezz floors going in. Have a basic idea of layout but still working on it will post when i have it all draw up.Kev

Good luck with the move, now I am back in a unit I am much happier myself.
