Need blade holder for roland versacamm
Posted by Mo Gillis-Coates on November 10, 2011 at 10:43 amHi Guys, I have been using smart knives from xpress, but have gone through about 15 in a year, so I’m not impressed to say the least. Stupidly when I px’d my old blades for new ones I sent back my original blade holder.
Has anyone got a couple of spares for sale as I need them quick?
Cheers

It sounds like your blade mechanism may be sticking slightly preventing the blade from fully returning to the upright position. What then happens is the tip of the blade then gets blunted by rubbing against the media clamp when it passes over it. This would explain why you are going through so many blades.
You can fix this by freeing up the mechanism by getting the cutter to cut numerous "8"’s which makes the holder bob up and down which will free off the mechanism.
Alternatively if the problem persists try removing the blade whenever the cutter is not being used to avoid it being blunted by the media clamp

Thanks Phill but there are no marks on my clamps and my cutting strip is perfect, I have been through all this before so it’s got be down to the blades. They cut standard vinyl no problems but as soon as I put anything in that’s laminated or slightly thicker such as label media, even at 250grm force it’s not even making a mark on the liner and certainly not cutting.
I use smart knives but they are just not doing the job
Thanks anyway

i have to say i was the same with the smart blades, wasn’t price or quality that was the issue for me i just couldn’t be doing with messing around with returning blades in envelopes to exchange etc. thats IF they still do that these days?
printone offer a good service and do lots of quality products.
£15 per blade or £10 per blade for pack of 5.
