  • Need advice on buying HP inkjet printer please?

    Hi troops,
I have been given an opportunity to buy a second hand wide format HP inkjet printer for myself.
I know the company that has it and uses the same engineer as we do at my workplace and after speaking to him he thinks it would be a good machine for most of our internal work pop ups, banners etc.. but are they really suitable for vehicle graphics ?
Currently the company i work for use a mimaki solvent printer for that but the price, quality and general ease of use with the HP does appeal to me for doing some of my own work and potentially starting out on my own.
All our printwork gets laminated and i would continue to do this if it was for myself too so just looking for some honest advice from a range of experienced people like yourselves.

    Thanks.
    Iain.

    Hi Ian,
I use a Z2100, if the inkjet you are talking about is a water based / pigment ink, then no, long term outdoor use is a no go.

perect for interior stuff, posters and the like, but long term exterior will fade. the vinyls you can print on are also only suitable for flat materials. I have only used it on vehicles when making very short term magnets or decals that are only required for a couple of months.

that said, I have signs in the south facing window which have not noticably faded in almost 12 months!

if it’s a solvent or eco solvent inkjet – go for it!
