DLSR or Compact style (Bridge camera)?

I’m a Nikon Professional so biased toward Nikon, so DSLR the D5100 has dropped heavily in price due to the D5200 launched, so nice deals about that will get you a body plus a couple of lens for the budget. Nice lightweight easy to use while still allowing the freedom for creation.

Bridge Camera – Nikon J1 2 is in the price range with a couple of lens, or (Hate to say it) look at the Panasonic LUMIX range – nice cameras.

Compact style – Canon Power shots / Panasonic Lumix again (Sorry Nikon!), but awhile since used a compact.

Or just blow your budget and by a new Nikon D3x like I did start of the year…..

Cheers Colin for the advice and giving other makes a mention from your own favourites, the boss likes the Lumix based on colour I suspect 😉

Ive got a Canon 500D and love it but i think your budget could stretch to a 650D. before that i had a fuji finepix bridge. Enjoyed the flexibility of the bridge , not having to change lenses etc but really depends what you want it for

Another Nikon fan here, with a D80 DSLR and currently looking to replace it with a D7000 (hopefully some good deals now the D7100 is out).

I have also used a Canon DSLR in the past, and have friends who swear by them. They do seem to be slightly cheaper than the Nikons.

The glass lenses do help provide some quality photos.

Thank you all for the suggestions on various cameras the info given and the make and models we looked into helped so much, we finally decided on the Panasonic Lumix DMC G3 model.

The camera has arrived today and will be used for real at the start of June, so expect some photos later 🙂

    Regards
