Finished In white with black ‘007’ logos on each carriage of set BN29, the locomotive and DVT also have large images of the film’s stars, including Daniel Craig and Dame Judi Dench. The vinyling was carried out at Bounds Green depot. The set has been decked out to mark the 50th anniversary of James Bond films, and also the launch on DVD and Blu-ray of the Skyfall film on February 18. Appearing at the launch was Naomie Harris, who plays Moneypenny in the film.

The train was launched into service at King’s Cross on February 16 at platform 007, when it worked a special carrying some cast members and the production crew to York, Newcastle and Edinburgh. Under reporting number 1Z07, the train departed at 08.33 and headed for Edinburgh (arr 14.35) with a champagne reception will be held as the set crosses the Royal Border Bridge at Berwick Upon Tweed, which bears some resemblance to the Royal Varda Bridge featured in Skyfall’s opening sequences.

The public will get to their first chance to ride on the set on February 17 when it works south from Edinburgh to King’s Cross. Sequences in past James Bond films that have featured railways include both Octopussy (1983) and Golden Eye (1995) which were shot at the Nene Valley Railway, Peterborough.

Skyfall itself features two classic train sequences – a dramatic chase on filmed on Turkish Railways in the opening sequence, along with an epic London Underground sequence in which a Tube train is deliberately derailed and crashes into a subterranean room as part of a clever CGI sequence. Neal Smith from East Coast said it was likely that the set would run with the Skyfall branding for a couple of months, but the loco would keep the livery longer and feature in a formal naming with cast plates later in the year.
