My work damaged by Facade company
Posted by Pane Talev on August 24, 2023 at 3:32 pmGood day all.
My work was damaged by Facade company recently.
They refurbished the facade and then jet washed the windows. Corners of letters are gone.
You can still see facade material on some of my letters. My guess is that once they started damaging the letter, they stopped with the remaining cleaning.
Material Metamark M7 White, installed 2017.
If they haven’t touch it, the vinyl would of stayed there proudly for many years to come in good shape.
The facade company called an “expert”, and the “expert” advice is that I used “bad quality vinyl”
I’m planning to give them a bill for 1 visit / assessment to the facade company.
Want to protect my client at all cost.

Personally i wouldnt get too involved. Facade company damaged your customers graphics, its upto them to sort out whos paying you to go and sort it out. Zero responsibility for you on a job that was fitted 6yrs ago. I would just wait for your client to order the job from you, then go sort it out and bill them. The nitty gritty blame game is between them.

“Their service” caused the damage.
If they hadn’t done anything, the letters would still be intact.it is not up to the Facade company to determine what quality of material has been used, nor any so-called specialist that they employ or turn to.
As Martyn has said, do not get involved unless they want to order new graphics.
If the Facade company are the one paying for the replacement vinyl, I would ask to be paid upfront as they do not have an account with you and they clearly don’t want the responsibility of fixing their damage and clearly happy for you to pick up their bill.
Might be worth suggesting to the Facade company to claim it on their insurance!
Do you have any good photos or video of the damage, Pane?

Thank you for your messages Martyn and Robert.
You are right, I shouldnโt involve. But I was there this morning to show support for my client.
Clearly they attempted to clean the glass and stuck the scraper in few of the letters. Damage is straight cut and not weather related.
On the last two photos you can see the Metamark M7 mini crack after 6 years on a glass facade that is on the sun all day. These weather/ years related mini crack are not visible after 1 meter viewing distance, compared to the damaged parts that are visible from the street.
Facade company is playing stubborn at the moment, will see how this turns out.

“Material Metamark M7 White, installed 2017.”
I think they’ve done well, M7 white is a 7 year vinyl to start with.
For them to say you’ve used a poor quality material is comical, considering the duration of time it’s been installed without issue.
Did you offer any guarantee on the product to start with, and secondly no guarantee will cover their incompetence. Support your client, but the onus is on the contractor or the client to get it replaced.

Hi Pane
Yes, you are correct mate…
most likely a blade scraper of some sort to have gauged into the letter like that.
the cracks appearing on the insides of the letters are due to excessive shrinkage of the vinyl.
The Facade company is definitely in the wrong. I hope you get it resolved soon mate. ๐ -
that is a disgrace, 7 years later and they are trying to blame you? i would tell them where to go! ๐คจ
best of luck with this Pane. ๐ -
I’m good on this matter.
I went on site, inspected the job and explained the situation.
To be honest as this is facade hit by the sun all day, I personally will not call those small cracks a fail. They are 2mm cracks that are normal in this hostile environment after 6 + years.
Metamark M7 white did well.

Hostile environment? you should try putting M7 in the same house as my wife, be lucky to see the end of the week without cracks showing ๐ฌ

Hi Pane
Sorry, I did not mean the vinyl had “failed” as such, mate. As you said, it has been on for over 6 years!
I was just labelling the photos to identify “what I saw” as the difference between the actual damage by the Facade company and the vinyl’s own deterioration. All vinyl begins to deteriorate and fail over time. Some, much more than others, depending on the brand, class/series etc. Fail/failing is just my terminology for describing it. Do not take my description in any way as negative towards the job mate. ๐

Hi Robert,
No offence taken.
Just wrote what I think of the M7 white performance on a glass panel that is on the sun all day.
