  • My son wants to be a sign maker – he’s only 4

After reading Shane’s post it made me think more about how what I do influences my son even though he’s only 4. For about the last 6 months he has always wanted to help me punch banner eyelets and round corners etc (helps me push the machines down 😉 ) He always says he’s a sign maker and when ever we pass a sign he knows I did he says he did it (already taking all the credit for something he didn’t do 🙄 )

But this evening was what topped it for me and had to post this, I was printing some stuff and he was watching it, it had a picture of a car on it and he liked that. He disappeared and came back a few minutes later, he had gone to draw (scribble) something on his laptop art software and now he wanted me to print it, unfortunately the software (children’s learning software) doesn’t allow you to print it and I don’t think I could get it off to easily anyway so told him I couldn’t do it.

Later during dinner we asked him what he wanted for Christmas ……….

    …… a printer like daddy’s 😮

Is it too soon to teach him how to use a scalpel 🙄 :lol1:

He’s so cute he’d be hard to resist.
When my Justis was still in diapers he would help tear off transfer tape.
Later he would always help pick off old letters for date changes on corosigns & banners.
He loved to put in grommets up until about last year.
Now all he does is work on tractors and dirtbikes.
    (he’s 14)
He can still pick out bad kerning on signs and vehicles.
He’s even pickier in real life than I seem about signs on the boards.
No harm in encouraging your boy, when there’s time maybe teach him to weed and apply stuff.
Or let him doodle on one of your older machines and if he’s good print him out stuff as a reward.
    Love….Jill

this was in April this year, he sat there pulling the application tape off all those little sign boards, I had to start it off for him as it was too hard for him to pull off himself :lol1:

He’s the greatest little (big) boy ever (spin)

vary bad pictures 😳 and I’ve lost about 2 stone since that picture 😳 😳 😳

and a haircut 😳 man I really shouldn’t be sending these pictures around :lol1: 🙄

My little girl is torn between doing sign work with me and being a nail tech like her mummy………all good fun though for me, as she transfers my weeded vinyl to the bin :lol1:

Warren, if the software doesn’t allow you to save then couldn’t you have done a screen capture.

I would put some software that he can use that allows you to save it if I were you but don’t forget to encourage him to draw with pen and paper as well.

Many years ago in Zimbabwe my eldest son grew up in my home workshop… in the days before I bought our engineering work shop in town.. He was tied into his push chair and sent to the workshop 80mt from the house… he had a good eye and watched us work on farm equipment etc..

One day he escaped from his chair and stripped our washing machine that i had started to repair…. had to do a complete rebuild after that as every pipe, screw and belt was removed…

Now he works on the oil rigs..
