It’s finally arrived. I ordered a SP540 end of last year, they installed Tuesday. Not bad for this neck of the woods……

I’m used to the SP300 – the media on this takes some getting used to! Just finished my 2nd day of printing. First roll of white is finished, printing on clear now. I "confidentially" informed 1 or 2 estate agents that I’m printing signs at a "reduced" price to test the machine. Had orders for about 400 signs from 6 different companies today alone…. Hope this is a trend for the new machine!

PS: Our new business is doing great! We far exceeded our monthly turnover target set for 1 year down the line in our first month. And one of the local Uranium mines is re-branding. Can do 2 months of turnover in 1 week!

    Just for interest sake…..

The SP 540 was about N$ 170 000 odd about 4 months ago when I started inquiring. When I placed my order ca 18 Dec’08 I had to pay N$211 000! When the technitian installed this week, he said the price gone up to N$ 260 000!! ( At roughly 1:12 for Euro / Namibian dollar, thats E 21500 for the SP.) Bad if you consider the 50% price increase in 4 months relative to our inflation of only 10% per year! What is the current price in the EU? I would think that with the global economic worries that big, international companies would want to flog their wares as cheaply as possible to generate cashflow? To add to our worries, I financed the printer at prime less 2% – which still comes out at an interest rate of 13.5%. And we have to sell cheaply to stay in business – I currently sell 600 x 400mm Correx , full colour digital signs with 4 eyelets at N$ 50, VAT included. That is about E4-00 / GBP3-00 per sign! I do need volumes to make this work. At least the Grog Shop around the corner now sells a CASE of Carlsberg Lager at only N$80. That is 5 QUID for 24 lagers! – About half the normal price. I’m a happy man…

If I could sell a roll of print in 1 or 2 days I would be a very happy man………

Glad to hear it is working for you. Prices everywhere seem to be increasing quickly……

Can I have 1 no. 600 x 400 correx sign and 100 cases of Carlsberg? Sign should read ‘Party Here’
    Signed
    Rev Smith.

Party is over! I sent Phillip around this afternoon to get another case of beer (I’m not saying how many times this ritual repeated itself this week!) and the price was up to the usual N$ 200. Apparently this was for a batch of beer that was nearing it’s sell-by date, thats why there were sold at the low price. I was just beginning to believe in Santa….and Christmas in February!

Your Reverend Smith sounds like a certain Nigerian (what else?) missionary who goes around these areas……he can buy his own beer, and pay for the correx sign up front. And I’ll bite his coins…..
