• My New PC, Hit a Problem

Posted by John Wilson on October 12, 2008 at 5:11 pm

Right I thought that I’d get myself a new computer to run my printers/plotters and a little bit of design work until I get my new Apple Mac for my design work……. next time i’ll take a check list

    • Case – check
      Motherboard – check
      CPU – check
      Heatsink – check
      Memory – check
      Hard drive – check
CD Rom to load everything – Dohhhhhhhh

    I know it’s been a few years since I built a computer but come on…… :lol1:

Have you guys heard of alienskin PC’s, wanted to get into some online gaming with a friend of mine (sad I know) and this has been recommended.
It goes against the grain but this is one area I can’t use my apple for.
    Any good?

If you got an IDE cable in the bag that comes with the motherboard and you have a spare mac/pc lieing about, just pinch the drive.
Once you got windows and software installed then disconnect the CD, its’ not a requirement.

Vista or XP? thats the next headache!
XP can require a floppy disk on install if your using RAID or thrid party IO chipset.
Vista will possibly struggle on some stuff
Corel X3 SP2 works on Vista i hear.

All up and and running now

It’s a PC but the only thing it’s got going for it is a Apple keyboard and mouse :lol1: :lol1:

Just went with XP to save any hassle and cos I couldn’t find my Windows 2K disk 👿 What can I say…. too many years in IT support :lol1:

P4 3.4GHz dual core and 2GB Ram so should be good enough to run my printer and plotter without the usual drag at times 😮

Hi Nigel, the worst thing with this is waiting for them to build it, it looks top quality though, I’ll just have to watch my language with my headphones on.

Dave on my old pc it was Halo, my new toy was originally bought to play Spore, but that game has been a major let down.

Most of my online is done via the PS3 atm while looking for something new for the pc.

On-line PS3 has just got to be COD4! That game is the nuts…. just wish I was better at it 🙁 Fed up with getting whipped by 10 year old’s 👿 👿

Rebuilt my pc the other week after a major melt down! . Cant believe how cheap the bits are these days… Tri core Phenom processor was £60, 4 gig of memory was only £30 ish and a dvd rewrite for £15.00!! Think the whole lot came to around £240! Bargain.

I haven’t played online games since quake – that was on dial-up and paying per minute! I loved it and would like to get back into it but I hardly seem to have any time as it is!
