  • MX panel decals- is it a money spinner?

Hi, does anyone on here have experience of printing mx decals? Its something i keep getting asked for but personally dont think its worth the hassle and by the time ive put my design time into it they could have got a kit online from somewhere probably cheaper. But am i wrong?

I have 30m of mx thick stuff laminate kicking around. Guessing you purchase the one off template for that model of bike and off you go?

So my question really is does anyone do this and how do you get on with it.

    Cheers

My personal experience is negative, usually they want ‘sponsoring’ in some way and the one time I relented I just got bombarded with more " you did my mates bike, can you do mine too and we’ll put your sticker on the bike" requests.. to me a tiny sticker on a bike that’s usually travelling very fast, a more often covered in dirt than not, did not seem a good advertising opportunity!

I’ve only done one bike that we’re willing to pay the going rate!

Exactly has Hugh has said. On the face of it the work sounds quite a profitable venture but no two stickers are ever the same and the whole project can become all time consuming for a relatively low turnover and they are always wanted on a Friday afternoon.

 Exactly as I thought guys. I already have enough of those Friday afternoon customers.
Out of interested what vinyl did you use?
I do a few rally teams that also want my sponsorship, as you said 99.9% sure that it will never get seen. I always stick to my guns and take the money or they go elsewhere.

I only ever did work on one bike and the All Print material left over went on some dustbins :smiles:

Most of my motorsport work involved 12 saloon cars in 2 different one make series and I only ever used Oracle 551 and 751 and a lot of reflective yellow, on one car only. Fortunately there were never any problems with payment.

Gave it a go a couple of times and was more hassle than it was worth. The material was so heavy in our GR640 cutter that it caused constant feed motor errors :bangshead: . Ended up with me at the back of the machine and a workmate at the front holding the material up in the air to take the weight off it. If we ever done it again I’d cut it into small sections rather than one big sheet. Probably wont do it again though as there guys 10 miles away from us that do it all the time. Any time we’re asked we just send the work their way.
