It sounds like it is Ian, copied from Mutoh document "The Ultima series consists of two models, the Ultima 850 and the Ultima 1400. The Ultima features a built-in laser-based optical sensor, which automatically detects registration marks on inkjet printed adhesive back vinyl, enabling the user to perform effortless contour cutting of pre-printed signs and decals. Yes it is a true optical, I’ve had one 6 yrs now, and haven’t had any problems, Keypad can sometimes be temperamental, but nothing a good thump doesn’t sort.

How wide do you want to be able to print Ian, the Ultima 1400 will only plot up to 1220mm wide which is a bit narrow for some of the printers on the market now.
If your looking at buying a printer & a separate plotter just something else you need to think about.
