    Hi,
I have just purchased a Rockhopper 38 to print some small decals..Can any1 help with connection problem?? Can’t get talking to the computer!- From the parallel port I have a cable converting it to USB (computer end) but it’s not being recognized and I’m unable to find any driver files?. Have been told to get a parallel port card in computer to sort this but has any1 managed to connect via USB?? ..Have tried with posterprint RIP
Any advice would be much appreciated
    Thanks
    Nick

    Hi Nick,

We run a rocky 62" off a computer that has a parallel port on the motherboard. When we had a play with a USB to Parallel converter we had no luck either.

They are picky buggers these older printers, for example we can’t seem to run a parallel cable any longer than 1.5m to the printer, any longer in length and it won’t send data?!

If you can get hold of an older computer with a parallel port on the back to try it on, that’d be best bet.

We run flexi but don’t have drivers installed for the printer, flexisign talks directly to the parallel port.

    Hi,
Thanks for your reply..I have now had a computer system made with a parallel port and XP put on etc…..and all working fine…not had a problem with cable length as have taken your advice and only put on a standard cable…so all is good…for the time being!! Thanks Nick

I’ve never tried these USB to parallel converters but heard that they are difficult to set up. The best way to do it in my opinion is to use a print server. Basically, you have a little box connected to the network (so the parallel cable length limitation is then irrelevant) and then the box plugs in to the parallel port of the printer. Tell your RIP or printer driver to print to the IP address you assigned to the box and Bob’s your Monkhouse.

I always used either Intercon SEH, Troy XCD or Intel Netport Express boxes and they were very successful. I’m sure I’ve still got a few kicking around somewhere if you’re ever stuck.
