    watching the news the other day i didn’t realize that the "mr men" books were such a massive concept. Seemingly the late roger hargrieves was the biggest selling childrens author next to JK. something ive taken for granted but the product is so instantly recognizable . I remmember reading these books to my kids as so many of you no dought do .

    personally as a child i was a camblewick green kind a guy.I particuarly loved the bit at the begining with the musical box which depicted what chractor the programme would be focused on. it always started with the same little dity …

    HERE IS A BOX
    A MUSICAL BOX
    WOUND UP AND READY
    TO PLAY BUT THIS LITTLE BOX
    HAS A SECRET INSIDE CAN YOU GUESS WHO IT IS TODAY ?

    Then the weE character would come out and the voice would say

    "ITS BRIAN THE SIGNWRITER" HELLO BRIAN (NOD)
    "IS EVERYTHING OK IN CAMBLEWICK GREEN TODAY {NOD NO}
    "WHAT YOUR SICK OF IDIOT CUSTOMERS THAT THAT CANT SEEM TO GRASP THAT THERES A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SCREEN COLORS AND VINYLS?{NOD YES}

    CUSTOMERS THAT THINK YOUR STUPID ENOUGH TO FALL FOR THE OLD CARROT ROUTINE "DO THIS ONE CHEEP AND YOULL GET THE REST " {NOD YES}

    "CUSTOMERS THAT CANT SEE PAST COMIC SANDS" {NOD YES}

    "CUSTOMERS THAT THINK THERE WIFES MATE IS GOOD AT CHOOSING COLORS COS SHE BOUGHT A PAIR OF DODGY CURTAINS FROM POUNDYS ONCE AND LIKED THE COLOR THEREFOR WOULD BE THE PERFECT PERSON FOR CHOOSING VEHICLE LIVERY" {NO YES}

    "WHAT ….YOUR GOING TO TAKE AN AXE TO THE LOT OF THEM AND BURN THERE SHITTY TOWN TO THE GROUND BRIAN !!! {nod yes}

    ahh the woders of childrens tv in my day

    it was always the magic roundabout for me, though I have fond memories of camberwick green and trumpton too.

    i recall some 15 years ago (eek), early mid twenties, coming in from a club at around 1am, then – with a group of friends- partaking in some triple choc cookies which were made with some dubious ingredients, at 2am the magic roundabout came on on (i think) channel 4, we all sat there watching it until 6am when something else came on, that was very weird to see it through slightly altered adult eyes after so many years!

    lol, they were probably repeats I saw when I was a kid (remember from around late 70’s – my god… i feel old all of a sudden!),

    the herbal cookie incident never happened, officer.

    Bagpuss was another favourite of mine when small, again, CH4 used to run it for about an hour every saturday morning at 6am, I used to always make sure I was back in time from the beach (fishing) to see it – sad, i know!
