  • Moving to another new unit, help needed with layout

    Morning all

I’ve moving to another unit which is a bit bigger than my current one but more importantly the doors to get in are bigger when driving in.

Issues I found with my current unit were:

Table size: I have a 1600mm printer and 2x 1020mm x 2440mm tables but the width is a pain with media flopping down, I do put them next to each other but it’s a ball ache to do so I want to build a new table so I’m thinking 1700mm x 3m, thoughts?

Storage: Another reason for 1700mm width table is for storage of media, I have limited space and it needs to go somewhere so I am now thinking, keep the print rolls in a box and store it under the table.

Heat: At the moment in the winter I get really cold so I want to build an office where I can work from, I plan to insulate the walls and I only have that area to heat when I’m designing, when fitting I can use a space heater.

I have a rough design which I have saved as a pdf and uploaded, just wondering what you would do with the space I have.

    Dan

Almost identical to how our unit was before we knocked through into next door.

Our production rooms pretty much still the same. We can walk around our 1500x3000mm workbench.

Depending on your printer, you may be able to get it closer to the wall, we have about 2ft behind it, with the rolls of media stored on a rack.

When we closed the shop and everyone came to the unit, we built an office in the fitting bay at the side, with storage on the roof.

That’s great news David. I’m also looking at a new unit tomorrow, onward and up upwards.

Just thinking, wouldn’t your printer be better flush against the wall? (if it will go)

The printer will go flush up against the wall but (I think you have the same printer) the vsi-640 is loaded from the back and I hate moving things. Everything must have a home and everything must be freely accessible. If I have to move things like tools to get to other tools, they don’t get put back.

Can you get a second floor in?

Not ideal going up and down but long term going forward it gives more space.

We have just moved. Bit bigger but everything was built with the intention of work growing. Worked out we could comfortably have 9 people working for us in the layout and I would never want to employ more that that anyway.

Bigger the work bench the better in my opinion.
