  • mounting dibond 2mm to an MDF wall…

Posted by Bart Van Wassenhove on December 7, 2006 at 9:34 pm

    Hi everybody,

Has anyone suggestions on how to mount Dibond 2mm-panels to a MDF-wall? The panels are 300x75cm and covered with a laminated digiprint. Customer doesn’t want to see any screws…

    Cheers,
    bart

double sided tape panels are not that big or thick so heavy duty double sided should work sorry just re-read ok panels are quite big but if you do lots you should be ok

    hi lynn,

that was also my first idea, but i’m a bit afraid of the MDF. MDF always seems to have that very fine dust on it. Maybe i’m too cautious 😕

    thx,

bart maybe rub the mdf down and give a good wipe with white spirit or similar to get rid of any debris, or what about just glue like serious stuff, there was a post not long ago about glue

    Hi,

MDF must be painted/sealed before any tape applied to it whether it be velcro or vhb.

    Hi,

You could use a no nails/ UHB type of sealent.

be aware, some strong adhesive cause large dimples on the face of dibond and the like, once cured for 24-48hrs.

You’ve got a couple of choices I reckon. Seal the MDF before using a double sided tape, or fix some kind of keyhole fixing to the back of the signs and hang them. The downside to this is that they won’t sit tight against the MDF because of the thickness of the fixing.

What about a countersunk fixing with the graphic applied over the screw head? You could even fill the screw head first to get a better surface.

you could always mount them on small plastic locators like you would with letters? situate the loactors in about 2-3 inches each corner and you wont see them. gives a nice finish too…

might not be possible but I would be tempted to screw some strips of di-bond or acrylic to the MDF…then use these as contact points for your double sided tape
