Mk1 Ford Escort with 101 Miles!!
Posted by Paul Humble on December 13, 2008 at 11:25 pmI know ebay links arent allowed on here so ill just tell you about an unbelievable car on fleabay.
There is a Mk1 Ford Escort with 101 miles on from new up for sale!! I deal part time in "Modern Classics" and know that these things just dont get sold to Joe Public normally as Museums normally snap them up.
The car looks brand new, I cant wait to see what it sells for. Ill guess it will go over £15,000.
If you cant find the car let me know.
(BTW its not mine, im just a nerd and get excited by rare cars)

Paul, Museums usually dont bother with modern classics, and dont have the money to spend, they tend to rely on people "loaning" cars to them on a permanent basis, that way they can have their cake and eat it, and have a tax benefit. (the museum looks after it but the owner gets to use it as well)
Have you put a bid in?

No Peter, im putting all my spare change into making a go of the sign side of things.
I cant see there being any profit in buying it to sell on, and the missus would kill me if I added to my keepy pile!

Found it Paul
Judging by the engine bay it looks "as new".
It makes sense to buy a car like this rather than try to restore and old car. I have an 1986 Capri that I have owned since new. It’s completely original and I plan to put it back on the road but know it will cost me more than the car will be worth. So an original car like this Escort does make sense.

Your right in a way Phill, I had an unrestored 1985 Series 1 Escort RS Turbo. It was absolutely spotless with only 28,000 miles. I actually shed a tear when it was sold.
However my Mini Pickup had a full restoration and is basically better than new, some cars just cant be found in "as new" condition, I honestly never thought id see a mk1 Escort like this. The fact its a 4 door just adds to the appeal as 4 doors were never a favourite and usually ended up scrapped rather than looked after.

looks photoshopped to me 😉
I just cant get into this at all guys, a bit of nostalgia is fine, but we are talking dagenham dustbins here.
OK each to his own, whatever turns you on,

Wash out your mouth!! lol!
My wife used to tell people my bone marrow was blue and silver like the Ford badge.

seriously though, be aware, if this car is as said, it may not have been snapped up by a museum, but would certainly have been sold via an enthusiasts club or proper auction.
it also follows a pattern, the seller has a good feedback, but all of the recent items are of very small value, suddenly a large item of potential value is put up…

now if it was a rs1600 had one in 73-4 just one of those things i should never have sold.
some friends of mine build mk1 2 for rallying for a living and always on the look out for good shells, the last 2 came from Spain

As for the Princess, well, yes, it wasn’t the prettiest car in the world, but they had a lot of redeeming features. Like enough room in the back for a threesome. 😛
