Mirror Vinyl for Printing?
Hi All 🙂
Been very busy with new project so will post website link at footer but for now, have question that Im not sure about?
We are building some large props. The props will be CNC-cut from 8ft Foamex sheets shaped like crystals but have to look mirror-finished and need to have 3D-looking artwork on (which I will do artwork for in Photoshop/illustrator).
Is there a Mirror-finish vinyl or any type of reflective vinyl, that can be printed onto so where any of my artwork fades from shadow (dark) to white (clear) it will show the mirror finish thru?
I am creating the 3d-looking art but it needs to look like a 3d prismatic mirror. I can do artwork no probs, but it would be great if the art could be then printed onto mirror finish vinyl and then applied to the pre-cut panels.

Depends on your printer. We have printed with our UV cured inks on mirror vinyl with great results but solvent printers will struggle. If you get stuck I might be able to assist.

Why not print the fades on clear and then flood coat the mirror vinyl? Might be more cost effective than an expensive print receptive mirror material?

We don’t have a printer at all! So I’m looking for help on this anyways. Maybe once I have finished the artwork (next day or so) I could send it over and you could do a scaled-down sample for us perhaps?Where aboots are thee mate?

Do you mean cover the Foamex first in mirror vinyl and THEN put a clear vinyl over that with print on??
Wouldn’t that be more expensive? Plus there would be quite a few areas I guess where the mirror would be covered, so not sure what you mean mate?Beej

Bee J, long time!! He means print the artwork on to clear vinyl, then laminate that onto the chrome / mirror finish material, then put it on the board.
I have some printable mirror finish film here which I think came from perfect Colours, I may be wrong…I can’t find any of the samples I thought I had, may have used them or buried them in the crap room, either way they printed well with a latex printer on generic ‘hp glossy vinyl’ settings!
edit.. found them but no supplier name or brand on them!!

Yup, print on clear then apply over the mirror, might be worth a try, just a thought…

Or print directly to mirror dibond and then CNC cut instead of using foamex.
