I don’t know if this has been asked before but…. Do you have a minimum order charge?

If so how much is it or what do you think is an acceptable amount?

I’m pondering this as I did some Vinyls of the 3M logo today, twenty off at 125 x 70mm in a single colour. When I worked out the cost of material (half meter of vinyl/app tape) including mark up and the labour time (13 minutes – I timed it 😆 ) it only came to £10.77 for the job.

I am thinking of introducing a minimum order charge of between £25-35 pounds. I already do this for screen printing £35 so why not vinyl!

I have a minimum order of say £30-£40 but it all depends on the call.

You have to be careful sometimes. That ‘small’ job that you think you can whip out in a few minutes can sometimes take longer than a much larger order. Especially when they suddenly spring a logo on you that they only have at microscopic level.

As you say by the time you lay out materials, time and of course administration you may find yourself short changed.

I always try to keep artwork charges seperate and always make it clear to the customer that if artworks not supplied in a usable format there maybe an artwork charge. On seeing the logo I then confirm if there will be an artwork charge. Its amazing how many people think a word document or a business card is suitable artwork.

I use the minimum order line on jobs that I don’t want to do or are too busy to do. You know the ones, “can you do me a sticker for my crash helmet” type.

Some people think you have got all day to play around with these things. 🙄

Whilst we don’t have a minimum order charge we do however increase the price for smaller jobs.
If the customer is likely to come back with other more lucrative orders then being a little bit cheaper isn’t too bad.
If your customer had ordered 4 times the amount and based on what your calculations were then you would have made £43.08 and had 8 minutes left in the hour for acup of tea 😀

We dont have a minimum order charge. We usually do the same as Keith the price is usually increased for smaller jobs to cover costs. We have in the past had customers order £10 of goods, which isnt going to let me retire any day soon, but when they return a few weeks later giving you a lot more work its not so bad 😀

Our minimum order is £15.00, customers have all been entirely satisfied with this.
