  • Mini checkerboard roof fitting

Posted by Graham Dungavel on December 9, 2009 at 2:40 pm

    Afternoon,

Just had a call asking if I can fit a checkerboard vinyl to the roof of a New Mini.

It would be BMW supplied graphics, anybody have any experience of doing these? How do they come?

What kind of job is it putting these on and what is the best way to go about it? Is a hinge possible with the curve?

    Thanks
    Graham.

they come in 3pieces if its a single colour, using the roof as the second colour
the are interlocking pieces so easy to position.
and yes use a hinge. you can even cut the 3 pieces in half once taped into position to make life easier, if its the larger variant it fits the whole roof so you need to remove the gutters to rather than trim it to size,
if its a printed, or smaller version it does not go all the way to the edges

The comma goes to the back,

If it is from BMW it will be in 3 parts so fitting is easy
Peter you beat me to it

yep we have fitted many a BMW supplied but prefer to cut my own – I do it in 2 sections as apposed to the 3 that come from MINI UK.

usually the quality of the vinyl used by BMW is not so good though.

Its not necessary to remove the gutter trim though – if careful you can cut 5mm from the gutter edge or wrap under the gutter.

Experience of the MINI I know that a lot of the trim parts are one way fixings and tend to like to ‘snap’ when being removed – so be very careful !!
