    Hi

Looking to buy a CJV3 in near future.

Two of the suppliers I have contacted and asked the question, suggest I configure the printer as 2 x CMYK rather than CMYK – light M, light C, white.
I have mentioned that I do not expect to be doing overnight runs at first, probably about 10 hours per week building slowly from there.
Also would be doing some canvas prints, portraits perhaps, so maybe light C & M would help here, again suppliers say not really any noticable improvement over CMYK…. and don’t need white if I’m not to be doing many window stickers.
Since it would cost a few hundred to change configurations, your comments would be helpful to me in choosing.

I don’t really know about the colours Ian, but I’ve never had any use for white.

Don’t forget, though, that hot swapping cartridges isn’t just for overnight printing or long runs. Even with the low useage you are going to have initially you will avoid a cartridge running out mid print and ruining it.

I would say that, starting from only about ten hours a week, your bigger problem is likely to be cartridges going out of date before you can finish them. Therefore the fewer colours you use the lower the likelihood of that happening.

Thanks for that John, hadn’t considered the points you mentioned, very valid ones.

Strangely just had a customer call asking if I could run off some (not a lot) clear stickers with white on 🙄 , seemed like a job for an edge but he wants them to have a translucent quality, rather like stained glass. Ah well not from me will he get them…..

I am a big fan of Light Mangenta and Light Cyan, I have been told they produce better skin tones, silver and gold, do not know how true that is but i do know that i normally use approx 1.5 bottles of light to 1 bottle of normal, so there is more demand for the lighter versions in the type of printing that i do.

    Regards

    Russell.
