Hi to all ! I’m in the sign making business from 2 years now, and I think is time to start my own printing services. After a lot of reading, I chose the MIMAKI JV3 ( second hand ), but I have some issues, that I haven’t found the answer yet. I used to print on a ROLAND SOLJET SC645, which has the same EPSON DX4 heads like the JV3. I also had a lot of vynil printed on MUTOH SPIRFIRE , which has the DX4 also. The qustion is why they all use different ink, and ink lasting is a big problem when printed on the ROLAND (if not laminated) . As far as I know, all machines in this range are not quite different ( as for print heads, dampers, tubing, etc. )
Thanks a lot in advance ! Any help is appreciated !

    REGARDS

I think the reason is because of ‘agreements’, when they were designing the machines they all had to do their own research in what ink would work well and choose there own formulas that wlould suit the construction of the machine.

Same with UV Flatbed, many of the inks are made by the same company but using ‘their’ forumla and many of the machines work on Spectra Heads.

But you are right, each of the machines are the same if they use the same DX4 head but this doesn’t mean u can put mimaki cartridge in a roland as many things you have to be aware of.

1: Pipework, is this going to be solvent proof?
2: Caping station, does the head cap at the end of each pass to stop air.
3: RIP’s profiled for that particular ink mix of Cyan, Magenta, Yellow. What mimaki call Magenta might not be what Roland call Magenta.
