Hi All, We are new to this game and have just made a rather costly mistake with our jv3.

On Thursday Night I set a print going and left the roof to do something else without attaching the auto take up, well done me! :appl: came back to find the print had been picked up by the carriage and screwed up under it.

So we had error 7 head –*—–.
We unplugged the ribbon cables and checked they where seated OK to find a small mark in the end of one of the ribbon cable, which looks like it may have shorted between two signals

We acquired a replacement head and ribbon cable and plugged them in and made a test, so the machine was error free.

Now we had done a number of cleaning cycles and can see ink entering the reservoir at the heads but when we run a test print it moves as if it;s making the test print but does not lay down and of the four colours.

Probably run at least 10 cleaning cycles but still no luck!

Any advise would be much appreciated, I have an inkling that the slider board is defect and not firing the heads but would really like an expert opinion or even to here from someone that could come out to repair it for us…. Only problem is that we are in the North of Scotland!

    Thanks

I would use a syringe attached below the capping station to draw ink to the heads.

Hi, Thanks, we have managed to draw ink through to the capping stations now but this morning the machine has another problem, when we power it on it shows boot on the screen for 2 seconds then turns off again.

Seems to me like there is a short somewhere or damage to either pcb,

Does anyone know of a technician who covers Inverness in the North of Scotland, or somewhere I can Bring the machine too?

    Thanks

    Hi Gregor.

Sorry to hear your problems, I hate to say this is probably going to be costly. Hopefully I can help to diagnose it though so you won’t get clobbered for labour costs.

First thing, make sure the power is disconnected and then turn the power on at the front until the light goes out. That means the printer is discharged. You MUST do this before removing/reconnecting ANY flex cable.

I would then unplug all the heads from the slider board and power on. If the machine gets further than before, you know a head is knackered. If that makes no difference, discharge the printer again and unplug the 5 cables that go into the slider board. If it then gets further, you’ve got a knackered slider. If not, discharge the printer and unplug the 5 cables from the main board and try again. If it gets further, you’ve got a knackered FPD cable. If not, start crying as your mainboard is goosed 🙄 🙄 🙄

Let us know how you get on.

    Stafford.

    Hi Stafford,

Thanks for the help much appreciated, been a real busy day and just got to looking at this, Tried disconnecting the heads – still the same, the five cables to the slider – still the same and that’s about all i can manage tonight. will go to the main board tomorrow and let you know what the outcome is.
    I’m prepared for the worst!
    Thanks again

Hi Stafford, Had all the covers off tonight, got to the main Board – unplugged the 5 ribbon cables and powered on and still the same! But while I was in the back of the machine I smelt electrical smoulder at the power supply. Now removed the power supply to find a burnt resistor and signs of overload in the bottom left corner.

I’m pretty worried now as to how this is all linked together!

Fancy a trip up to Inverness!? or do you know of anyone I can contact who can come rescue us?

Ill be ordering a power supply, but I’m really worried about damaged to the main board still, as when we had power none of the heads where firing?

    Thanks

That’s really unfortunate. It does tend to get a bit expensive when dealing with that end of the printer.

I’d love to pop up to Inverness again, I was up visiting a friend of mine in Buckie at the end of last year and it’s lovely up that way. It’s quite a trip though as I live in Kent!! 😮

Can you post a picture of the damage? If it’s just one of the transistors then I would expect it to only be one channel that’s packed in. Unless of course it’s something further on down the line that’s caused it to fail??

    Stafford
