  • Milky Solution On Window Graphics

Posted by James Culpin on February 24, 2010 at 10:02 am

Has anyone come across window graphics that are printed onto clear and applied to glass that then after 5 or so days have a milky residue to them. I’ve not applied the two jobs that this has come up on myself and have been assured by the applicators that nothing was done any different from any other application that has been fine. I’m going to test the variables to try and find out if it’s a solution mix problem, bad print, bad application etc but in the mean time was wondering if anyone else has come across it???

I take it that they were put on wet and if so, not all the water was removed 🙁

This usually occurs when the vinyl has a water based adhesive. We only use a solvent based adhesive when doing window graphics. The solvent does not react with the water, so no milking issues.

Thanks both for your replies, your both thinking along the same lines as i am. As mentioned i want to check the variables as i am told prints were as normal (solvent glue) and they were applied properly. Having not seen the print or been the one to apply it i need to find out if being told pork pies……

I believe the use of washing up liquid in the application fluid can also cause this. Squirt some on some glass and let it dry to see the result.

    Hang on a minute.

Doesn’t the milky appearance happen straight away, then gradually disappear of it’s own accord over a few days?

I know it’s cold, but I would have expected it to be fine after five days. 😕
