    Gordon,

You seem like a whizz with Explorer……..can you help with this one?

My chosen Homepage is Freeserve but I have some sort of pop up that replaces it with coolsearch.com

Despite going into Options and clicking Use Current page etc., for the homepage every other day it pops back to Coolsearch??

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

sounds like u have a dose of SPYWARE. i use Spybot Search and destroy. download it from here

    http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=spybotsd

It’s freeware and a great tool for removing unwanted SPYWARE.

Also you can try instaling pop up stoper from here

    http://www.panicware.com/

there is a free version to try, which will stop most of those anoying pop ups from apearing

Thanks for that Mort, I’ve looked at the Spybot thing and on one Forum it says it can destroy certain parts of your registry if you don’t know what you are doing?

I admit that half the time I don’t so am a bit concerned about downloading it?

Also another quirk I have noticed is that my Fonts file keeps chganging? I lose some Fonts and these are replaced by others?? I have a full Virus checker…………………but does this sound like Spyware to you??

I use adaware myself find it very good free to download and makes a good job one of the few that will uninstal Kazza completely

Empty your cache cookies history etc an see if that works

Do a search on your computer for coolsearch and delete ( make a backup of your registry ie export it makes a copy you can reload) before you do though. get adaware at lavasoft.

I ahve never had a prob with my registry being destroyed b4 tbh.

With SpyBot you can restor anything u imunize.
And yes it definatly sounds like spyware to me.

    Martin,

Depends on what version of Windows UR using – If its 98 or ME then Click “Start” , “Run”, Type “regedit” and click “OK”.
Then in the editor window click on “Registry”, “Export”, make sure you put it where you can find it again and Export Range is set to “All”

Thats it – but be carefull ‘cos its a bit of an easy way to mess up windows in a big way 😆

By the way, re your problem with fonts – do you use a font manager program or just windows ? I use Adobe Type Manager which looks after things really well and enables you to use Truetype and Type1. I have heard that if you get too many fonts installed in windows that it can cause problems – just a couple of thoughts….
