Don’t know if this has been mentioned before but there has been a scam on the go now for quite a while where someone phones you to say you have a serious problem with a virus on your computer.
They claim to be from the "Microsoft Support Group" and normally have access to your details.

Just thought I would mention this because although it’s been on the go for quite a while they are apparently ramping up the operation in the UK at the moment. I had a call from them this morning and when I told the guy I wasn’t interested he asked ME why I was wasting HIS time :lol1:

I had a call couple of weeks ago from a chap wanting to do a free "health check" to my computer. He claimed he was from Microsoft,

    here is how it works

Dont let anyone you don’t trust anywhere near your files!

It’s a farely common scam at the moment

we have 3 of these in the last fortnight, dont know what the scam is probably selling antivirus software.

They say they have data from your computer that says it has a virus/problem.

Knowing its bullpoop I just say which computer? they stammer and start saying it doesnt matter which computer, I just keep saying you said you had data about a specific computer? which one? they sound frustrated hang up each time.

James, if you read the link Peter posted it explains how they work, other thing to remember is that they are not only charging you for a problem that doesn’t exist but they have full access to your machine so can lift any info they want from it.
